I'm not sure where the best place in San Fran to get sangria is but I do know that you can make it pretty easily and not have to pay alot like you might have to do at a bar. I've tried alot of recipes and this one seems to make the best (so say my friends and coworkers):
2 bottles red wine (try Yellow Tail or Lindeman's Cab. Sauv.)
2 cans Fresca (citrus flavor)
1-4 apples, cubed
1-2 oranges, peeled and sectioned
0.5 limes
0.5 lemons
0.25-0.5 cups sugar
Mix the wine, soda and sugar in a pitcher or bowl. Add sugar to taste (I usually use around 0.25 cups but others have used more with good results). Then add in apples and oranges and mix. People tend not to like the oranges since they get soggy so I favor an apple heavy version but if you can use whatever you like best. Then place the lime and lemon slices into some kind of plastic bag with holes or netting and place them into the sangria. Chill overnight and remove the lime/lemon pieces before serving. It's easiest if they are in some kind of container that allows them to soak in the wine but not float all over the place. Enjoy!

Tropical Sangria: Start with a bottle of your favorite white or red wine (white work in this recipe) 16 peeled and pitted leeches (canned leeches OK too) 1 cup of fresh pineapple chopped into small chunks 1 thin sliced lime 1 thin sliced orange 1 cup of papaya chunks 12 Maraschino cherries 1 ounce of melon liqueur Let everything soak in the wine except for the lime and orange for one hour to get the tropical flavor infused into the wine. Add the limes and oranges fifteen minutes before serving.

I usually think of Sangria as being red but, in Texas, we love to make it with oranges. Add cut-up citrus for decoration:
Orange Sangria
This is a nice alternative to red or white sangria.
1 medium orange
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups orange juice (freshly squeezed is best)
1 bottle of dry red wine
1/2 cup Cointreau
Cut the orange in half. With a vegetable peeler, cut off the thin outer peel of one of the orange halves, avoiding the bitter white layer beneath it. Slice the other half of the orange; use for garnish.
In a bowl, using a spoon, mash the sugar into the orange peel so the sugar absorbs the oils. Stir in the orange juice, wine and Cointreau. Cover and chill for 15 minutes.
Remove the orange peel with a slotted spoon or strainer. Chill well. Serve sangria in a pitcher, garnished with reserved orange slices. Add ice cubes to individual servings, if desired. Makes 6 one-cup servings.

You don't need to add rum or other alchohol. Just buy a lower priced 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon jug of wine and mix in the fruit, sugar and some citrus soda (fresca works best).
You can buy some sangria mixes at the store, but in my opinion it's best to make your own.

OOOOOhhh...it's sooo good homemade!
Red Sangria
1 orange, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1 apple, cored and sliced
1 bottle red wine
3 cups white rum
1/2 cup orange flavored liqueur, recommended: Cointreau
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
3 tablespoons sugar
1 quart club soda, to taste
To a pitcher add orange, lime, apple and cover with red wine, rum, orange liqueur, orange juice, pomegranate juice and stir in sugar. Chill in the refrigerator. When ready to serve top off with club soda, to taste.
