Swimming is good for the whole body. The effect of your weight on the water too makes it easier and harder to hurt yourself. The water takes the weight of your whole body. Jumping rope does help but if done too much can damage your shins so take it easy to begin with and then slowly work your way up. The same goes for the swimming. Start off with a kickboard and do a few laps just kicking. Then do above water breaststroke and slowly speed up. It is a great way to get all over toning.
Good luck I hope this helps!!!

You can't spot reduce. Just lose fat and let your genetics determine where the fat comes of. Weight lifting is much better than running for a myriad of reasons for losing weight (and keeping it off) and it creates muscle tension even when you are relaxed so that it can created the illusion of weight loss. Essentially you need to burn more calories than you are consuming. Stay slightly hungry throughout the day and find some way to measure your body fat%. You should shoot for no more than .5-1% of fat loss per week.

you can't lose weight on a specific region of your body. your best bet is to do exercises that work on the muscles in that area and do cardio.
