First, I am a Pentecostal. But I'm a Biblical Pentecostal.
I believe the whole Bible, not just Acts 2:38.
And that's the main problem with the UPCI, they look at Acts 2:38 and made the rest of the Bible revolve around that.
The UPC is wrong when they deny the Trinity, they are wrong with their legalism, they are wrong about water baptism and they are wrong when they claim one can't be saved unless one speaks in tongues.
UPC majors in some minor issues like requiring girls to wear dresses, yet I don't know of a teen from the UPC who arrived at her wedding as a virgin.
Pentecostal denominations which come much closer to believing the Bible are the Assemblies of God, Church of God - Cleveland, Foursquare, Vineyard and Calvery Chapel.
Obviously there are no perfect denominations, however the UPC is so drastically imperfect, many actually consider it to be a false cult.
So the bottom line is I don't think much of the UPC. And yes I know exactly what they teach. I've been to their headquarters building on the north edge of I-270, on the north side of the St. Louis beltway.

Dear Kitty,
Unfortunately the Pentecostal Church has erred in their doctrines as so many other denominations. They believe in speaking in tongues. This phenomenon of tongues is thought to be a sign that a person was saved and speaking for God ie., adding to the canon of Scripture. However, this violates Revelations 22:18, 19 where we read, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
God will not violate His word and add to it. The Pentecostals do not seem to understand that when they speak in tongues and say that this message is from God, they are in violation of Revelation 22:18, 19.

I'm a one God Apostolic tongue talking Holy rollering born-again Heaven-bound believer in the liberating power of Jesus Name. I've been washed in the Blood, Sanctified by the Spirit, I believe in Holiness, and I suggest that you should do the same. I was set free at a Pentecostal alter on my knees, which and pardon me of I'm not ashamed, to be a one God Apostolic tongue talking Holy rollering born-again Heaven-bound believer in the liberating power of Jesus Name.

Those who do not believe in the Trinity and instead believe in Arianism and/or modalism are following an ancient heresy of Christianity. All others are very close to Catholic theology, perhaps closer than any other Protestant groups.

"Speaking in tongues", or glossolalia, seems to be a major part of Pentecostalism. That it is such a major part of worship makes me dubious as to its veracity. In the days after the first Pentecost, the Apostles were speaking to a multitude of people who spoke different languages; as they spoke, all understood them. Nowadays, when people "speak in tongues", noone understands them. Does this correlate? I think not. If I am mistaken, please let me know what I have missed.

I think they are right about spiritual warfare but wrong about baptism and speaking in tongues. William Branham laid out very biblical method of using gift of tongues and very few PC's do it correctly and biblically.

I assume you mean about putting so much importance on speaking in tongues???
If so, that's one of those things that I don't see as an "essential" of the Christian faith and therefore, not an issue. Some people believe it, some don't. Both are fine in the context of an otherwise authentic Christian faith.

I was invited into one of their "sittings" by a friend who practices this religion and I was trying very hard not to laugh at all the folks rolling around on the floor saying things I can't understand but I'm not claiming I know anything about it because I don't.
Perhaps you can tell me about it?

I currently go to a Baptist church. I like my pastor and wouldn't leave now because there are so few members there and I feel needed. If I ever do move on, I am going to go to a Pentacostal church. They seem to me to be more yeilded to the Holy Spirit to me, and to have more power. God bless!!
