we read, "There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:" (Luke 16:19).
Then in Revelation 17:4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:"
I do not want to know what these verses mean... I just want to know if the color "purple" has any spiritual meaning. Thanks.

Purple was the color of royalty and of the wealthy. The dye used was unique to the city of Tyre in Phoenicia which held a monopoly on it for centuries. It was made by boiling thousands of tiny snails off its Mediterranean coast. Consequently, being highly coveted, cloth dyed in this fashion was very costly. Cleopatra actually dyed the sails of her private yacht in this manner. That the rich man in the story wore purple is Jesus' way of telling us that he was loaded and could have afforded to feed a thousand Lazaruses with ease. The Revelation reference tells us of the wealth of the harlot. Later, purple came to be the preferred color of penitential seasons (Advent and Lent) in liturgical churches. Notice how it is easy to associate purple with negligence and decadence, two all-time favorite sins; hence the repentance motif.

Not really a spiritual reason, but when the Bible was written, purple was a color of richness, afforded only by those that had the money for the greeks to dye their cloths a deep purple, made from the urchins harvested there......
Either manufactured there or imported, the color purple meant richness and lavishment.....
It had nothing to do with the spirituality of the story.....

Purple is a color of corruption in the Bible. The Woman dressed in scarlet and purple in Revelation represents a Church, a corrupt and fallen church.
The rich man dressed in purple was likewise corrupt, and he went to Hell while poor Lazarus went to Heaven.

Purple used to be worn exclusively by royalty and the rich. I know that much. As for a spiritual meaning, sorry, can't help you.

Purple has long been associated with royalty, because the dye to make purple was so expensive, only the kings could afford it. In time, its use was restricted to the royal family.

It denotes rank and thus, wealth. The father of Arthur, the legendary warrior King, was said to have `worn the purple`, suggesting that he was a high ranking Roman. All `spirituality`can be traced to history and cultural practices.

It is the colour of Royalty and madness. It shows up in schizophrenic art a lot and is a favourite of European and British kings and queens.
Spiritually it could be said to denote extravagance.

in ancient times, it was the most expensive color for dyes and cloth; thus it was associated with wealth and royalty; in some cultures only royalty could wear it.
by the middle ages, blue was the rarer/expensive dye, thus mother Mary statues/paintings emphasized the blue for her.
