It can be a couple of different things. But in a case like you suggest, just an area that is fenced off that only people old enough to drink can get inside and beer is sold and consumed. Most rules would be you can't leave there with alcohol, so a chairs and tables or a place to drink. But rules will vary from place to place. Where I live you would have to get a special temporary license, with a whole list of regulations.

It is the term used to describe such an area at festivals, and events like ball tournaments or other sporting tournaments that are usually armature in nature.

A beer garden is a place out side where beer is serverd.Just an outside bar so to speak.

A beer garden is a garden made of beer or the ingerdents of beer, there is often a fountain, and some hops growing, it is not a nice place to be as there is no gin.

It's an area with bushes and flowers and the such where they serve beer. The beer gardens in Philadelphia were really beautiful. This was when I was much younger. I dont know if they're still there now-but I know they still have them in Germany.

A beer garden is what some bars have outside where people can sit and drink, and being as smoking in public buildings is now banned in the UK, smoke too!

At the local race track it is where the drunks sit and it's the only place you can buy and drink beer in the stadium but you don't have to be 21 to get only to buy the beer

In Australia the term beer garden refers to the outdoor area of a licenced premesis, where it is legal to sell and serve liquour. (especially beer!)
