Could be the popliteus muscle or one of the hamstrings at their distal insertions. One other option would be the posterior aspect of the capsule around the knee. Either way, just start icing it on a regular basis 10-15 minutes at a time. Probably about 3-4 times, at least, per day. Good luck!

if it feesl like it is directly behind the knee, in the joint area it could be a sprained ligament. It just depends on how you injured yourself. Watch for swelling, if you have swelling and the joint feels tight you probably want to go to a doctor to have it checked out. I've never heard of a muscle pull directly behind the knee, and if that is where your pain is than it's probably something internally.

We have several tendons that run in a tunnel or track in our wrists, knees and other joints. They can pop out of track and be extremely painful.

This fixed mine but it was at the inside of the knee cap.

GENTLY, very gently, while sitting ease your foot up across your other knee into the masculine leg cross. This is how I accidentally learned to fix mine. But it was a different tendon so it is possible it will not work.

Good luck.
