give kitty the trots with that stuff,...try a whole raw egg once a week or so. a treat for kitty and good for the coat as well.
my cat loves french toast batter left overs on sunday mornings.

I'd rather let the cat ingest a safe oil instead of treating the surface which will mostly get gooey.

Flax oil, primrose oil and salmon oil are good, but DO NOT use cod liver oil, that depletes the vitamin A in a cat's system and can harm the liver. My vet said that in a pinch a 1/4 tsp (about 6 drops) of canola oil over dry food will help.

But actually the best I've used was Derm Caps from the vet. I think the bottle cost $8 and had a one month supply in it.

My cat had dandruff, and I went to a vet website that said to dribble a little olive oil over her food, and after a week she was sleek and shiney and without a trace of dandruff. You can rub the olive oil on the cat in affected areas, too and he will lick it off. It helps as a topical skin softer as well. It's likely he has dry skin. The mineral oil is too harsh for him to take internally. Oilive oil is organic and easy to digest.

my dog has the same problem, and my vet said I shouldn't put any human products on her. there is an oil in the pet store that helps control the dandruff and helps stop the itch. it worked well on my dog. it's for both dogs & cats.
