Hi,
Why don't you ask the painting people to clean the paint on your oak trim. I am sure painters have cleaners to do the job in a hurry, without damaging the finish. Hopefully you haven't paid them yet, that gives them REAL incentive to clean it up in a hurry.
Vacuum your furniture and the floors several times. Use a lightly dampened mop to clean your hardwood floors.Murphy's Oil Soap can be used on wood floors for grime. Rinse the mop in plenty of CLEAN water repeatedly!
This will require a lot of hard work ,but not a lot of money.
Good Luck

Obviously your painters didn't do their job in full, and hopefully they are bonded/insured. If they were subcontracted, your contractor is responsible to correct the situation. If they are not liable and you are on your own, try this....
Okay, here is your solution. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Trust me, they really are MAGIC. You wet them, squeeze them out really well, and then wipe all the dust away, they also remove scuffs, toolmarks, crayon, fingerprints, etc... They can be reused a bunch of times, but eventually wear out, so use another until your cleanup is finished. I hear that they make a mop too, but have yet to try it. These things look useless, but they remove everything from top to bottom: sheetrock, moldings, any kind of surface....and absolutely no damage to paint or finish. No cleanser is necessary, only dampen and rinse often.

The painters should have left your house clean.
Pursue them for a proper cleanup.
However, its to get them back - they may not come back even though liable.
Leave it as it is, except for the dust, clean that up for your health - take before & after pictures.
Contact your authority in your area for this sort of thing & report the painters.
Tell everybody you know not to use them & why - (pictures).

If you're reluctant to go after the painters (I had a painter's helper pour turpentine on one of my rose bushes, and was stupid enough to contract with the painter again, after he offered to pay for the rose).
Do you have nieces and nephews who could use a few extra bucks and are willing to do what Auntie says?

The painters who made the mess should have to come back and clean it up. I have never heard of anything like this.
Call the company and tell the owner what they did and insist they come back and do the job right. Hopefully you haven*t paid them. I would hold up payment until it is done right.
If they don*t do it right, report them to the Bettetr Business Bureau.

I would take picture's of the areas that were not cleaned by the painters or anything that was ruined and send them a bill.. If they are bonded/insured it should be fixed and replaced by them.. Good luck
