Usually a State does not include the following pay allowances when determining food stamp eligibility:
BAH (housing allowance)
Separate Rations (food)
Special Pays
So with those pays eliminated, an E5 stands a good chance of qualifying for some amount of food stamps.
Note that some states use different rules for food stamps ie. Hawaii uses income and any vehicle that your currently making payments on.
Also WIC is available at most Commissary's (if not all) and should definitely be used whenever possible!

depending on where your duty station is and what the income amount cap is for that area will determend if you are able for food stamps the pay for a E-5
less then 2 yrs is 1853,
over 2yrs 1977
over 3yrs 2073
over 4yrs 2171
over 5 yrs 2323
with having a house hold of 5 is a good thing becasue the more in the house hold the better chances of reciving assistance so the best thing to do is find out the income cap. But if you are not able to get food stamps then you can check with your chaple on base and they just may have a food locker where you can go and get cand food and they may have checks for the commissary. GOOD LUCK

Probably. I am guessing that an E5 pay would be low enough for a family of 5 to qualify for food stamps. And if your question is whether or not military personell and families can qualify for foodstamps...yes.

My husband is an E-5 also and we have 3 kids too. If any of your kids are under 5 you do qualify for WIC. In fact every base we've been to has had a WIC station on base.
I do not think you qualify for food stamps though.
We do qualify for WIC for one of our kids, but we choose not to use it. I enjoy things like 6flags passes and driving places and do not feel I should get things for free so I can have more fun or save more. I don't know. We put $500 away in savings per month. And we go to 6flags weekly, so I think an E-5 pay is enough.

what is his job if hes a nuke then and you live on base then very doubtful go to your local dss office and apply and find out
probably not based on the fact your housing is paid for by the navy in full. the bah is depending on where you are for an e-5 in virginia is 1232 i know this because my hubby was an e-5 thus leaving lights and phone and car to be paid and any allotments so i seriously doubt it and e-5s take home pay after bad is about 1400 a pay period
to the girl about the navy assistance its called navy marine corp relief its a pain getting assistance and they only help a sailor once maybe twice

i'm not sure about the navy or what programs they have, but on army posts they have an office called outreach or Army community services..the Navy should have something similar. Try looking up your base website or call the main number and ask for family resources. I know plenty of families, especially lower ranks get wic and food stamps etc. (and for those telling you to get a job, they must not have kids or if they do, don't realize how hard it is to get a new job each time you move and how expensive chilcare is for one kid let a lone 3) Good luck! :)

If you're below the poverty line in income, you qualify. It's a sad day when our military families need to apply for food stamps because the government has failed to provide for their basic needs !

I thought about every answer you have received... and always i remember how hard is was when i was 'in'..
Now, every time i see this sort of thing, it embarrasses the hell outta me because i always thought the good ol congress was addressing the military pay scale.
I see they are as tight fisted as ever..they give themselves generous raises, and for every dollar they allocate to the military, they dole out to constituents, bureaucracy's and suckup's...nothing has changed.
It just makes me feel so embarrassed as a voter..and i feel contempt for the ineffective-ness of government to get this old issue out of the military.
A military man suld not be serveing for wages that bardly keep him out of poverty levels!!! Thats a fact. And A GOVERNMENT OR CONGRESS that allows that ought to be ashamed of THEM self...THEY ARE not representing me.

If your family size and income meet the requirements where you live, you may qualify. I don't think an E-5's pay is low enough, but I could be wrong. :-)
