At the prison I work at, its the other way around; the government pays the prison to hold federal inmates.

No. Federal Prisons use your Federal Tax Dollars. Huge bill for the tax payer.
State Prisons come out of your State tax, or however your State pays for them.

Nope they just cost us money, but a tax i willing to pay. One less person i will kill from entering my home to hurt my family.They do bring money in but not anthing that will off set the major cost to house them.

the few activities the inmates do are minimal and almost meaningless

the object was rehabilitation, but hey...there is not enough good work for the non criminals.......not enough good work to go around.....

so what to do with the criminals when they get out ?
