Many think that the word Magic has been fouled by the illusionists and charlatans. So many witches, wiccas and the like use the spelling "Magik" to differentiate between the two ways of thinking.

Magik is a comic reference.
Magick is spiritualism as taught by certain mystics

A lot of people use 'magik' or 'magick' to differentiate 'real' magic from stage illusions. They could, of course, distinguish between them by referring to 'magic' and 'stage illusions', but it seems that's too obvious...

A lot more use it as an affectation, because they think it looks and sounds mysterious and 'witchy'.

Magic is used by the magicians, as in the ones that perform magic on stage, rabbit out of the hat thing.
Magick, is the practice of witchcraft.
Two different kinds of magic, magick.

I haven't heard much about "Magik", but plenty about "magick". The "k" in magick was used by Aleister Crowley to differentiate occult magick from stage magic.

a dude name aliester crowley...was into the occult and thought up the idea of changing the spelling; to show who was 'in the club' and who was not.

This is the same dude whose mother called him the beast and the anti christ....

He's been dead several decades now..but if you don't want to be labeled..a "twinkie"....then use the misspelling of the word.

The same reason they mix up "you're" and "your", "weather" and "whether", and lots of others. They never bothered to learn the proper spelling/usage and they think no one notices their bad spelling. We notice, don't we? Have a good evening!
