The best way to deal with braces is ignore it. Otherwise, did they give you any wax to put over your braces? They suggest not to put it on yet until a few days, so see if they hurt after a few days, and put it on over your braces so they don't hurt you while you're sleeping. Usually, though, they hurt after the first day, but after awhile, people get used to it.

Also, try not to chew gum or eat popcorn or anything else sticky or hard. They might knock out the wire of your braces and it would hurt even more and may result in possibly cutting your gum. It's also suggested that you don't drink anything carbonated (soda, etc.) so the glue doesn't wear down.

Edit: Wax. Usually wax is recommended to be kept on as long as needed. They usually recommend it while you're sleeping, so 8 hours max, I supose. Just put it on whenever you like and take it off when you don't feel like wearing it anymore. Don't use the same thing of wax. Make sure you don't run out either!

Take some ibuprofen and use the wax if the braces are tearing your lips up. Braces will feel really uncomfortable and strange and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it at the moment. The feeling will definitely go away in a few days. In a few days or less the pain should go away and eventually your lips will heal and stop hurting or getting cut. Unfortunately your teeth are going to hurt every time you get the braces tightened. As for your dry lips, DRINK LOTS OF WATER (not cold because that'll hurt your teeth) and use lip stuff for dry lips and protection from the cold air. The saliva when licking your lips actually dries them out more.

They hurt so bad because they are actually shifting your teeth already. Your teeth are being dragged through your gum to align with the brace. They will hurt for the first 3 days. I suggest sucking on ice cubes, drinking cold beverages, and avoiding anything that will force you to have to brush immediately afterwards. If you think they hurt now, wait till you have to brush!! Good luck and you will thank yourself for not ripping your teeth out later.

all you can do is take more painkillers and eat soft foods to let your teeth adjust. braces really arnt that bad, just the tightening of them can get pretty annoying.
btw- pick some cute colors if your dentist will let you

good luck

For a few days until your teeth get adjusted you will need to take a pain reliever every four hours. But it will get better.

Follow all instructions to get done as soon as possible.
