I have 15 cats 11 males and 4 girls. All cats are independent and will let you pet them when THEY want to be pet. However girl cats tend to be a little more loud, and a little more pushy. Males can be territorial however they do adjust well. When you first bring the cat home your cats WILL NOT like it at all because they were there first. The best thing to do is buy a metal dog kennel with a metal lid that latches on and keep the kitten in there for about 3 weeks, this gives the other cats a chance to get to know your kitten, the kitten should be kept in there with a littler box, a scratching post food and lots of toys. This gives the older cats and the kitten a chance to see each other but not hurt each other. It always works. I have owned, resuced, raised over 100 cats and everytime this seems to work. I would advise a boy cat if you have girl cats He will be able to balance the cats out. I would also advise a kitten that is about 12 weeks old, god forbid your older cats get a hold of it, a 12-16 week old kitten would be able to protect itself better.

I've never seen any specific gender differences that were totally belonging to one gender, we currently have two females and three males, and I've grown up with other cats--- they're all 'cats', and act like cats.
The behaviors you mention are mostly learned, so you can find both genders showing the same behavior.

Male cats can spray.....and let me tell you that is not a pleasant experience. I had a male cat that did not like my father and started spraying his favorite recliner. The vet suggested we have him nuetered, but it didn't solve the problem and we ended up having to find him a new home with a little older lady who lived alone and had a lot of time to spend with him. He did great there, no more issues.
That is the biggest issue I can think of, my current cat is a female, she is about five years old and she has attitude to spare.....we got her from a home where she was being abused, so she has some issues......she doesn't like kids other than mine, she will tolerate petting on her terms only....and when she has had enough she will let you know. She is a big hunter....she is always trying to bring us presents.....mice, birds, squirrels......icky. She is a nut, but we love her.

No, I've had both and the males are usually more laid back then the females. It depends on the cats individual personalty more then their sex. But, I've only had a total of four cats, 2 female and 2 male. The female cats could kick both of the male cats butt, they would just play fight though.

It just depends on the breed. A female not fixed can be really moody just the same with a male that is not fixed. But if they are both fixed I have had luck with both being good cats. I have a female mainecoon she is pretty moody and I have a male tabby that is great and a lover.

Not really. However, there are small differences. My girl cat is more affectionate and lazy, where my boy cat is more adventurous and more of a "hunter".
