I've had some experience with auctions and research on German Drillings,in my work as an Appraiser, but to be quite honest there needs to be a lot more description and details in order to figure this gun as far as manufacturer etc.. All I can tell you for sure at this point is the double shotgun with a single rifle barrel on top is referred to as a "Schienendrilling" There were literally hundreds of these drillings produced by just as many German gunsmiths. The fact that it is engraved as much as you have indicated means it could in fact might be a highly prized "collectable." The one thing that totally stumps me is all of the Scheinendrillings I've ever seen had a small caliber rifle on top, not usually a large caliber round. They were made in metric calibers ie: 9.3X72R,8X57JR caliber, and some with believe it or not .22 caliber barrels. The main manufactuers of the quality Drillings were Ferlach,Heym,Kreighoff, J.P. Sauer and Suhl. Maybe if your friend is willing you could take some digital photo's with as much detail as possible with special attention to ANY writing or engraving.. A lot of these quality guns were made by highly skilled craftsmen, by HAND! The photo's would narrow the field of possibilites and indicate post war or pre-war . Pre-war being the most collectable and desireable. A standard drilling in good to excellent condition with 50-75% engraving, is valued between $1500-$8000. The more desireable, collectable guns bring between $10,000- $20,000. Even more if they have the original claw type scope mounts.....

Also try www.accuratereloading.com , world's biggest gun forums- onto the drillings/combo forum and get an appraisal there once you get more details and www.nitroexpress.com on their forum for that gun type.

Could be anything as mentioned, old, modernfrom a few grands worth to tens of thousands.A lot can come with basic engraving so that might not mean much. Of course it could be the highest grade too..

Generally as said german and Euro makers are into these, and make a great many calibre and barrel configurations. Some will even make you triple barrel rifles and vierlings, which is 4 barrels joined together of various shotgun and rifle calibres. That is where the price can really start to go up.

I got a quote from peter hambrusch a short while back on a triple barrelled 470 nitro for about 58,000 Euro.
A custom heym combo gun in 416/500nitro 577 nitro 'bergstutzen' starts at a 75,000 Euro quote. No I did not buy either gun:)

The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. GREAT BALLS OF FIRE. What a great find. I would be shaking like a leaf. I would take a long hard look for markings of any kind. I would also check to see if the barrels were really shotgun barrels as some of those old bores were huge. Enjoy your research, it will be a lot of fun.
Most of all after getting everything verified on the piece take really good care of it and treat it like the treasure it is.

Your friend rifle/shotgun combo is called a 'drilling.' German drillings are pretty expensive and depending on maker, conditions, finish, calibration(s), etc. it could be worth anywhere from $2,500 to $3,500 to a collector.

Enter the word 'drilling' on any good internet search engine and see what comes up.

Good luck.

If you look hard enough, you may be able to find the maker somewhere on it. Mine is a 12x12x8x57IR and probably not worth much more than $3500, but if it's got lots of engraving and inlay, it can be worth a lot more. Your friend's is somewhat peculiar, if the rifle's on top instead of underneath.

Put an armed guard on it; go to GUNSAMERICA for a starting point. Some of those drillings can go up past the 50k range depending. The Luftwaffe issued some of them as survival weapons and they are really pricey.

Nice, you're gun is probably worth as much as my collection of 24 non-collectible guns.

You can find your exact gun on that page, but they run for about $10,000 give or take.
