If you are talking about a phone number, I believe that number is just used for movies and TV, not for personal phone numbers. Otherwise, they might give out someone's personal phone number.

I have seen 1-800 numbers that have 555 in them, but they can't start with 555. Movies and TV use them because they are fictitious, so that they don't get sued by giving out someone's number to millions of people that are watching. Crazy, huh?!

If you are talking about phone numbers, then no, not exactly. It is usually used in movies,so that the don't give out a nuber and people start calling it for no reason. Also, it is used for information in some areas. Try dialing 555-1212.

only numbers over 555 . 5551 for instance . 5552 is another one , as is 5553 . Less often seen but valid none the less is 5554 but the least seldom seen is 5555 - you'll be really lucky to see that one . 5556 and 5557 are just common and 5558 - well zzzzzzzzzzzzzz . 5559 on the othe hand is more complex and had the interesting property of being divisible by three . After that 55501 takes us into the five digit area that we all know and love 55502 being a particular favorite of mine . I'll be back later - I need to feed my cat .

As far as I know, it's a media-only prefix, and there is nowhere in the U.S. that uses it.
