No, it says it's as bad a witchcraft.

1 Sam 15:23
23 Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,

Not the same smell.

Hmmm, well, rebellion can be a good thing, like when a society rebels against a societal wrong such as slavery. So, I take that as a compliment, since Witchcraft is also a very good thing. I know the bible says it is evil and all that nonsense, but no one who knows what true Witchcraft is thinks that it is anything but good.

I am a Witch, and I am a good person.

Hi there!

Correction, the Bible did not say that rebellion is a form of witchcraft but rather, it compared it to the sin of witchcraft.

1 Samuel 15:23 (King James Version)
"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."

God bless You.

Rebellion is a behavior not associated with any occults. It is a form of a behavioral dysfunction. In the book of Samuel it is akin to sin, just like stubbornness is akin to idolatry. Make sure you get your facts straight next time. People actually come to this site to learn.

Obey ye slaves of Christ! ;-Þ
If that's the case then all Protestants are Witches for disobeying the Bible they believe is the revealed 'Word of God' -- it takes alot of hutzpah to say this and be in rebellion against apostlolic authoriity of the Catholic church in the same breath. One must remember that "St." Paul said xtians had to obey the church and state authorities, and he was referring to the Roman emperor Nero. I think I'll stay a Neo-Pagan and a Wiccan, Thank You Very Much!...

1 Samuel 15:23 states
"For rebellion is like the sin of divination or witchcraft"

"LIKE" THE SIN OF==meaning it is comparing it to something (simile).

A simile is a comparison of two unlike things, typically marked by use of "like", "as", "than", or "resembles"

Meaning that it is the same sin as witchcraft.

Let me also leave you with this:

Galatians 5:19-21
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Samuel 28 tells the story of Saul's rebellion against God and Saul's consulting the Witch of Endor against God's commandments.

Yes. If I remember correctly, the prophet Samuel told King Saul, after yet another episode of Saul's disobedience to God, that rebellion against God's commandments was just as offensive to God as the sin of witchcraft (King Saul had earlier ordered that all witches in Israel were to be put to death).

=====edit===

For those who wanted the specific passage:

1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NIV)

But Samuel replied:
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king."
