Traditionally the halo was meant to signify the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Saints are believed to be in Heaven face to face with God because of their exemplary lives and the miraculous works they performed so they also get halos. A halo can also be an illusion like the ring or halo around the moon on a foggy night that is caused by the refraction of light through the fog. There are also some really fantastic magicians/illusionists out there. I would bet David Copperfield could put a halo around Satan's head if he chose to. Would you believe it was real?

No documentation of this phenomena exists. Many people, including myself, an atheist, by the way, can see auras or thin films of light surrounding people. Most are blue, in varying intensities, though I have seen some that were yellow and one red one. This is likely the energy field that surrounds our bodies as we generate heat and internally generate electrical charges. But the big billowing halos in pictures--no way unless their head is exploding maybe.

More and more people are developing abilities that used to be thought of as 'supernatural'; this is because spiritual work done in past lives is coming to fruition. A very great deal of what is diagnosed as "mental imbalance" these days is actually "spiritual" or "kundalini awakening"; the unfortunate fact is, is that it can cause a GREAT deal of disruption in one's life if not properly dealt with, and there are VERY few people who know how to deal with it properly! What you have described is the "seventh chakra", or the "thousand-petalled lotus"; generally when this is active, the person is considered "enlightened".

ive heard stories like that too...i think very religious christians have that same white aura because they have jesus living in them....ive heard abt this one time a christian man met a lady that was into witchcraft or sum supernatural stuff and could automatically tell that he was a strong christian because she saw a white aura over his head like a halo. The woman wouldnt even touch him because of it.

I think those are orbs. Orbs are "dots of light" encircling souls either to protect them or help them.
