I was recently at school, and there were recruiters from the Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy.
I am pretty sure that College isn't the thing for me, and I have a low GPA to boot :P.
I was intrigued by the idea of joining some branch of military, specifically the Navy, and I was wondering:
Which branch is the most dangerous? Meaning which has the highest mortality rate?

What is more important than the branch you are in is what you do in each branch. Traditionally, the order from safest to most dangerous is: 1. Air Force 2. Coast Guard 3. Navy 4. Army 5. Marines BUT, a Combat Controller or Pararecueman (both Air Force), for example, would be in greater danger than a Water Technician Marine, because they have different job descriptions.

Marine Corps and Army have it the roughest right now for deaths.

The Navy just stays off in the ships unless you specialize in piloting or SEALS whereyou would go on land.

The Coast Guard is not such a boring branch though, like the Navy is. Because instead of sitting off shore in a vessel, you are going out saving lives and protecting our waters. They also have the most time off of any service where you can sometimes expect to work 2 days on and 2 days off. The reason they do that is because they can and will call you up in a moments notice...like with Katrina. They called people up who were on their vacation to go back to their base. But if you want a sea going service, Coast Guard is always the number 1 rated. I only hear military people say, "If I knew now what I know about the USCG, I would have joined it. You can do ANYTHING in it."

The navy is a good option, you can also earn college credits while in the navy, just by doing your job, and when you re-enter the civilian world (if u choose to, because the military world is awsome) most employers look at this is a great light because u are obviously a good hard worker. It give you a great advantage, and also will pay for college after u leave the navy, again, if u choose to. While you are active in the navy u dont have to pay a cent to go to school. Their are obviously dangers in every branch of the US goverment, but the navy has a limited amount, it mainly depends onthe job u choose with in the navy,, it you become a eyoman (secretary) papercuts will eb ur worst fear, or if ur tall running into the pipes abord ship, but nothing that u cant handle im sure, best of luck.

It all depend what is your job and location, but army no doubt is most dangerous, since they sending most of their troop to Iraq and Afghanistan, second is marine corps, however nearly 1/4 of marines are aviation, if you want to wear the best uniform of all branch and most respect and same time don't want to go front line try marine corps aviation rate. They do exactly same as the navy counterpart aviation, they goes to carrier. But physical demand remain the toughest. If you general but the least dangerous overall, go for Airforce if you afraid of water and want the best living condition, go for CoastGuard if you want to stay the statesite or home. Navy can go bothways, since currently alot of navy folks send to iraq and afghanisthan for support.

you are 1500 miles from land and the ship sinks.you are not at the top of the food chain now.Navy and Coast Guard are the only 2 services that do the same job during both war and peace times. If you go Navy,be prepared for 80+ hour weeks and long times at sea.May be better now but when I was in as a machinist mate,we worked 125 hours a week while underway and 80 hour weeks in port.Had to spend 5 years at sea to get a 1 year shore billet. If you have a VFW Post or American Legion Post where you live,go down and visit with the vets to get a first hand story.

You're going to find the highest death rate in the Marines and Army because they're on the ground.

With the Navy and Air Force, the rate will be lower.

Have you considered the Coast Guard? That's another option.

If you dont want to see ground combat stay away from the Marines and my Army. Both the USMC and the US Army are taking the brunt of the fighting in boths wars and as a result the most casualties. Look at either the USAF, USN, or even the USCG

No matter which you choose, you will be trained to kill or assist someone else to kill. You will be the one in someone else's sights. A lot of young people just do not realize this fact. For many generations my family and I have served our country. In my experiences, I would say that the Air Force would be the "safest". Pick something that is in aircraft or vehicle maintenance, that way you will serve at a base that most likely will be away from most action. Remember, it is a commitment and not just a job. Serve with pride in yourself, your family and your country.

It depends your job. If you're handling Aircraft on a Carrier.. watch out for jet blast. You may get blown off the deck, or worse.. blown into something that doesn't move. Now if you get to close to the intake.. you get sucked in and become FOD (foreign object damage).

I was an Avionics tech in the Navy.. most my injuries were from not wearing a condom.

Navy is not a bad choice, if you like being on a boat (with no alcohol) for months at a time. Working like a dog (especially on an Aircraft carrier). Look at the Air Force. Better environment. Boot is in warm climate (not chicago). Assignments are better (no boats).
