How do you feel about this?In the era of an unfavorable war, recruits have fallen 15% the last quarter and fell the previous quarter as well for the army.Is this the answer?
Personally,I feel that in order for anyone to become a politician, they must serve a full tour in one of the 4 major branches prior to becoming eligible to represent this country.Maybe single out the guttless and crooked and provide those remaining with a clear view of just how their decisions impact families.

Actually,it is the military that is pushing the draft.extending tours to 18 months is a no go,and IF some of you actually read up on the situation, youd know that recruits numbers have all fallen.

most of you are too young to remember the legislation that Viet Nam vets wanted entered into law...............no one liked it except veterans
the law would exempt the children of Viet Nam veterans from any draft (their option)
the children of the ******* draft dodgers would be the first called up........as it should be
justice
but hey...this is America.....
the American public for the most parts spits on us veterans......you people have no idea of the damage that military service does to the human body......how it surfaces in later life..........
we need to somehow change our government........and maybe an option is to split of certain states to be independant from federal government......like Texas or California.....
its beyond unfair......that a minority of the population gets more voice in the government than the largest states of all
dont look at the so called balance of power.............thats a ruse...........
we need a country that takes care of its veterans.....
its easier to get treatment at a hospital as an illegal alien
than for a veteran to get treatment from a VA hospital
listen................this crap has been building up for years....and we are running out of time......
what we need......is not a new or different vote...or parity....or any other government controlled BS..................
we need justice.......and we need to start with a place we can claim as our own country....
America has turned its back on us.......America is run by special interest groups and "old" money....
its unfortunate that I am not more eloquent in my writing...but I am trying to say............not all veterans are going to take it lying down anymore.....
we are almost to the point where we have NOTHING to lose anymore.........
maybe now.....in a few more years...
we will have the war..come to our shores...and not a small terrorist action........but hundreds of thousands casualties.....thats the only time the politicians will react to a real war......and only out of fear for their own lives.......
so people...
if we are headed for a big war.....then I say...better now than later.......
I think more than a few veterans already have their targets picked out
guys remember..............we built this country...people like you and me with hard work and honesty....and now it is being taken from us....because the politicians are too chicken to risk their money or personal status..............they place their personal status above the life of a "common" soldier......
we have the power to bomb Iraq back into the stone age........but we are trying to be the policeman of the world....
find the terrorists general location.....then drop a bomb or two.........continue process until terrorists are all gone
sometimes in war....you really have to make war......and not try to win anyones god damn heart or mind
America is for Americans........dont we have the right to say who we want in our country? racial profiles? so what tough ****..........
Americans come in all colors and religions...but we are Americans.......real Americans dont mind racial profileing..............I dont
draft the children of the people that never served.....lets start the march of justice for real
and women got equal rights on the assumption they will suffer equal risk.....
definately draft women also

I think the draft should never come back. I am not against war and fighting, and i applaud our troops still dying out there. Going into the military should be a persons choice and they should never be forced to do it. THats is like taking our freedom away. Though this country is taking more and more of our freedoms away every year. We are slowly becoming a socialistic country. Like for instance why should i be punished or ticket for not wearing a seat belt, ya know? It wont harm anyone else but myself, and it they do that why dont they take all candy away from us, or doughnuts, or beer from us. It is the same thing. IF we keep letting this happen it will only get worse. I am not trying to be radical or anything and i am sorry i jumped alittle of topic, but being in the military and risking your life should be a choice and not forced on someone. DOes this make sense? sorry if i offended anyone!

i agree to every point that you mention. i am only 15 and i would go in the place of any who have to extend their tours. the point you made about politicians having to serve is wise. If all were military men then this country would be better off. CIC Honorable President Bush tried all he could to keep this country moral but one man cant do everything. forcing people to join is not an option unless this country is under a threat larger than WWII. in a situation that troops are diminished to an all time low.

The West Germans had a good system. The Regular Army got paid three times as much as Conscripts and got the good jobs and promotions. So you could volunteer or wait and get conscripted.
I think service should be a requirement of citizenship.
Those to gutless to serve shouldn't be allowed to vote much less serve in the government.

Well to draft would be a bit more fair than the program of stop-loss they are implementing -- forcing servicemembers to deploy again and again long after they have fulfilled their obligation to their country. We should honor them, not F%ck them over.
But nonetheless, a draft would end this already unpopular war because the people wouldn't stand for it. Politicians understand this, that's why some democrats are pushing for it, and republicans are against it.

Recruitment has reached it's quota for the past quarter for the Air Force and surpassed it for the other branches. That shows how much a draft is not required. Volunteer's make a better Military. You can't blame the politicians for impacting families, since all those Service Personnel volunteered. They could only be to blame if the Troops were drafted.

I might have to disagree with you about the military pushing for thr draft. The Pentagon recently reported that by initiating the draft, it's problems would not be resolved. I'm not quite sure what it meant by that, but it doesn't appear that it is in favor of a draft., either !

I like what somebody mentioned about Nazi Germany, I say your paid more if you enlist and if you don't you get drafted and your pay is cut *you also get crappy jobs*. I think it should be mandatory for two years out of college just to break all these pansy emo, preppy, rich kids into normal people. We will have a strong nation of strong men and women that way. Just my two cents. And no there is not going to be a draft dont worry.

You never, ever hear Republicans talking about a draft. The ones who write the bills for a draft are all Democrats, but somehow, they get up and scream about how the Republicans are going to start a draft. And the press lets them get away with it. Kind of goes to prove bias in the media, doesn't it?
Military DOESN'T want the draft. NO ONE does.
EDIT: Show me ONE source (credible, not some blogger) that shows that the military is pushing for a draft.

Nope. The draft is not in the cards. People who don't want to be in the military don't want it, and the military doesn't want /them/. Volunteers are just better soldiers than conscripts, and a large, less competent, force, just isn't an option for a nation like America that has an aging population.
