I received one on my birthday in January 2006.

You may well find it useless by this time, if it's one of those prepaid 'credit card' type of gift cards. I did the same with one and found it had ZERO value by the time I went to use it.

It depends on the state where the card was purchased. Some states do not allow them to ever expire, while others allow "fees" after a set amount of time which basically will wipe out the balance. The link below will give you the guidelines for each state.

The best thing to do is call the phone number on the back of the card. If it still reports a value then it is still good.

Generally, they are good for 1 year. You should contact the company that issued the gift certificate and ask.
