I like that someone brought this up. And just an added note...the so called "Atheist" that are being ignorant and rude are just that. They probably aren't even Atheists at all...just trying to get a rise out of an easy target.
Just try and be open minded (as the poster was) and realize the world is full of different people and different beliefs and who are we (one little insignificant person) to judge?

I'll add a star for you, Yogini. This conversation is always worth having.
Point one, this is called "Religion & Spirituality" not just "Religion." If spirituality is defined by moral and ethical conduct rather than belief in a creator-god, then I would have to observe that many atheists behave with greater spirituality, i.e. compassion, loving-kindness, tolerance, love and the other positive attitudes than do many of the theists in this forum. One can be ethical, moral and "spiritual" without being theistic or religious. As such, atheist views should be welcomed in this dialogue.
Second, for the person who offered the observation that Buddhists "don't appreciate" atheistic attitudes, I can only suggest that you haven't met many real Buddhists. Real Buddhists would view such an attitude as grasping at self or grasping at ego and would reject such an attitude out of hand. The true foundation of Buddhism includes the practice of compassionate loving-kindness for all -- not just those who agree with us. In fact, many Buddhist teachers will instruct you to regard your "enemies" as your best and kindest teachers. You learn very little from those who agree with everything you say. Those who challenge your beliefs and your commitment, those are the true teachers.
Yogini dearest, there is nothing so uncommon as common sense. Disagreement is neither bad nor good, just another path to the truth.
May all sentient beings, theists, atheists or whatever, be free from suffering and its causes. May all enjoy happiness and its causes.

I have no problem with atheists being in this forum..I don't understand why they are here considering this is the section for people have beliefs--not people who lack them. But whatever..let them come here all they want. They're actually the main reason I come to this section ;-)
I'm a Christian, and 99% of the time what I see from atheists is hatred--not saying atheists don't have common sense, just saying they do seem to be the most hateful ones in here.
The answers I see from most atheists are either down right hateful, or extremely sarcastic. I find it sad that some of them on here have nothing better to do than come in here and put people down. They need God--not just to be saved, but to have a better hobby.

Personally as a Christian, I can only say that I enjoy hearing the differing points of view that people have. I do not have to defend my own faith as it comes from the Lord Jesus Christ...and as far as I can see He has done an AWESOME job of "proving & protecting" His Mighty Word. Everyone has the right & privledge to seek out whatsoever they choose....as well as to believe & share that belief with whomever they wish..however as a former atheist I have now become aware that we are each (and ALL) accountable for those "beliefs" and therefore SHOULD take all dilegence to find out the Truth..with every fiber of our being..(as I DO believe that there are eternal consequences for what we learn & accept) So..to anyone; atheist or Christian or ???
I say "bring it on & help me see your point of view"
Eternity is a VERY long time to find out you may have had the wrong ideas because you didn't check your facts.

Atheists see life purely from a logical point of view, whereas many have never considered mixing logic with religion. Islam is the most logical religion there is. In fact, Islam and science are very related to each other and Islam supports science. In this sense, religion is just as real as science in that Islam proclaims the existence of a powerful almighty God to whom nothing else all material existence can originate from.

I completely agree with you, you have every right to post whatever you like here (as long as you are making a valid point).
Just because I and many others disagree with your opinion, doesn't mean you are not entitled to it. Those that say you cannot be here or join in the 'big' debate are wrong, plain and simple.
It's your view, so stick to it, and if down the road you change your mind (or not as the case may be), well so be it.

The issue is an attitude of contempt if not hatred, what to speak of their standard of conduct, which largely consists of insults, sexuallly provacative slurs, relentless derogation. If you were a real Buddhist it would offend, irregardless of who is under attack. I doubt that you are. I have known many Buddhists and they are not fond of religious insults and defamation. I have always supported atheists' "right" to be on here. I have never supported anyone's "right" to insult, malign and derogate anyone or anything. Try reading the rules of conduct. Article 2. "Be courteous". You think most atheists do that? Well,if that's your point of view,I would question you're ability to read. Most of them sound like Beavis and Butthead.

Who said they SHOULDN'T be on this forum? And even if you found someone that says that, they aren't omniscient. Anyone who isn't omniscient does not know all the facts, so they are incapable of knowing (let alone correctly saying) whether something should or should not be. Have a nice day :)

I Love To Defend My Beliefs. And Jesus didn't come to save the perfect. I'd rather be here than church. (sometimes) Because I'm challenged here. I consider it a privilege to be a defender of my faith. I'm VERY seldom wrong. lol
