It doesn't happen too too often, but sometimes I get these pains in the left side of my chest, shoulder blade and shoulder joint. I've asked my doctor about it, but she says that it's probably an empathetic pain from an upset stomach..etc..
I'm having a hard time believing her.
It doesn't happen frequently enough for me to want to go to the emergency room or anything, and it normally only lasts about 5--10 minutes, but when it happens the pain is so intense, I can hardly move my arm. Anyone know anything about this?

It can be gas. Try the over the counter Gas X medication. Drink water with it. See if that helps.
You might be pulling a muscle in that area. Get a book on stretches and gradually limber up your body.
If it is gas take the gasX and then walk, even if it is around the house. Walking helps move gas. After walking you can lay on a heating pad.
If you do have a chronic gas problem do some prevention things. Watch what you eat. not too spicy food. Don't drink bubbly drinks.Eat slower, you might be swalling air when you eat. You can take your left hand and gently pound on the area that hurts......that is like burping yourself.

If it continues and can't be resolved see your doctor again or see another doctor to get a second opinion.

I wish I had this 2 years ago when I damaged my rotator cuff while showing off. This is very detailed and really gives you the techniques you need to sort out your own shoulder issues and a lot more info such as preventing further injuries. If you have a shoulder keeping you awake at night you'll know it's no laughing matter.

It truly could be related to abdominal gas. In fact, during a laparoscopy, they have to pump your abdomen full of air so they can see. After this procedure, a lot of people experience left shoulder blade pain due to abdominal gas. I've had this happen myself. But if you think it is musculoskeletal, seek another opinion.

You need a Chiropractic adjustment. THE PAIN IS FROM PINCHED NERVES IN YOUR SPINE. TRUST ME. I have gone to Chiropractors for 60 years to stay physically healthy.

Every vertebrae in our back controls a different portion of our body.

In the mid back if it is NOT in proper adjustment it will radiate pain around our chests. It can become severe enough to make you have stomach aches and vomiting.

I have had it a few times. Now I am certain to get a monthly adjustment and massage to keep my back in good shape.

Good Luck.
