and I came home from work early last friday and she was all dressed up - she said she was 'just across the street"

Aww, I know you must feel sucky. Look the last thing you want to do is bother her about it right after she brings it up. Just give her the space. Give it to her. Leave her alone for a few weeks, then maybe drop her an e-mail or text to see how she's doing/let her know you miss her/etc. She's obviously trying to figure some stuff out about herself and your relationship. Not giving that space to her will drive her just end it. It's not definite she'll come back to you, but if you give that space to her, but occasionally let her know (not in a way she's obligated to respond to) that you still care and think about her, it'll mean a lot and will probably end well.
