=SUM(C5+(-D5))
Treat the number you want to subtract as a negative number. In this case I wanted to subtract D5 from C5 so I made D5 a negative number, by putting a minus sign in front of it. Don't forget to seperate the negative number from the rest of the equasion with parenthessis.

Type "=10-1" in any cell. and hit enter.
(use the stuff in between the" ", not the " themselves.)
Or type "10" in A1, type "1" in A2, and type
"= A1 - A2"
in A3.
You can also use the excel help files to answer your questions. It is in the upper right hand corner of excel it says "Type a question for help". if you can't see those words, maximize your excel screen and look again, it should be there. In this case you could type in "subtraction" in that space and hit enter. These are useful help files, and they are built-in, no need to go online:).
If for whatever reason you want other resources, there are also google groups for excel and other online groups and messageboards resources for excel questions and answers.
When you have time, check out some excel GAMES, internet search Kouichi Tani or Keisuke Yuuki for their games!

lets say you have 10 in cell a1 and 5 in cell a2
your subtraction formula is
=sum(a1-a2)
you might be able to get away with
=(a1-a2)
if you want to multiply in excel, you use * that's the star above 8
adding in excel, you use +
dividing in excel, you use /
