"Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." Matthew 7:12, aka The Golden Rule
The runner up has been made into a great Byrds song:
Ecclesiastes 3
3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (3:1-8)
3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
3:6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

"Test the spirits, to see if they be from God"
Btw, you do know that, since this is an open forum, addressing your question to one group or another doesn't mean that all your answers are going to be from members of that group, I hope.
My favorite Bible quote is:
Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Here, Jesus, Who is about to be crucified, gives a commandment, by His Own authority (which He could do, because He is God). What is so important, at this very crucial time that it calls for a COMMANDMENT??
Simple. "That you love one another."
Simple? "As I have loved you, that you also love one another.
But my favorite part is the qualifier:
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples..."
IOW, you will KNOW when you've been in the presence of a real disciple of Christ. The love will give him/her away every time.

(Ecclesiastes 1:9-10NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. {10} Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.

Actually there are quite a number of good sayings in there about being kind, honest, generous, happy, and loving, and also wise and not critical of others.
But to pick one: "Love thy neighbor as thyself." James 2:8

Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you....
I like this particular quote, and it has parallels in almost every other living religion on earth...

I think "By their fruits ye shall know them" is sound advice. It's karma, really. It's judging a person by what they surround themselves with.
