I'm getting a 2nd hand car shortly. However, I haven't passed my test yet and so won't be driving the car. It will have to be parked in the carpark next to my building. Do I need to have insurance for this car while it won't be getting driven by anyone?
Thanks.

I would suggest at least TPFT in case it gets stolen, also if you have no insurance you won't be able to get tax - so unless you have some where off road to keep it, you could be fined (or check that the land you plan to park is not considered a highway)

you should have at least coverage on the car in case it gets vandalized or hit by another car. In some states, you can get "stand by" or non use insurance that is cheaper while the car isn't being driven. But don't drive it till you have full insurance as required by law. It's an expensive ticket!!

If you're in the UK, and the carpark is not part of the highway, then legally you don't need insurance. However, your car is vulnerable to being stolen, set on fire etc., so common sense says it should be insured for your own protection.

That would depend, different states have different laws. So you need to find out what your State law is regarding automobiles. For instances, I'm in TX. you can have a car moved from point A to point B by a tow truck, without having to have insurance. But if the vehicle is operated, you will have to have insurance. Hope this helps.

I don't know how it works in your state..but here in Oklahoma if you are not going to be driving your car then you can get what we call a "Black tag" from the tag agency for about 10 dollars and u put it on your car and it says you will not be driving that car and therefore you don't have to carry insurance, however you'll need to get a current tag and insurance when you start driving it. But its cheaper than paying insurance if your not going to be driving it. $10 bucks and your done till you want to drive.

if it is parked on any public road, car park then the law states it must have insurance, mot, tax, all three are legal requirements for any car/motorbike on public roads/car parks.if it belongs to a housing association then they could remove the car for not having the legal requirements as stated above.at least if you have all these then you can drive with a fully licenced holder and L plates displayed.that way you can put into practice what you have been taught.full licence holder i believe must have been held over two years or three years.

In most states in order to register a car you will need proof of insurance, unless you register it as for a better word inoperable but then you cannot drive it home, best off is to see if your parents will put it under there's, and add their name to the title also.

Yes unless it's in a garage or storage. It can be left in your yard with it's back to the street. But should code enforcement, police, etc. have to come into your yard in an emergency you can be cited. The fine is more than the insurance.

Some places are stricter, some less. The best thing to do is ask your local DMV.

You don't need to have insurance if it will be sitting on your drive, although if it's a decent car you might want to have 3rd party fire and theft, just in case! :)

If it's registered, tagged and parking in a public place - then yes, you still need insurance.
