The Lakes are a perfect holiday for kids. Plenty of places to see, hills to climb, lake Windemere to sail on, paddle in. Have picnics.
Keswick is delightful. Kendal has a specialist chocolate shop and is a good shopping centre. The charity shops around there are worth a look. There is a ruined castle in Kendal.
If you keep them active all day, 3 little pink cheeked darlings will be in bed by 7pm. Time for mum and dad.
Paragliding, horse riding, tennis, abseiling are all Lake District activities.

If they like forests and climbing go to Grisdale forest go ape. it's got zip wires and rope swings 30ft up in the trees. went there for my birthady and it was great(I'm in my 40's but my two teenagers and their friends thought it was cool!) you can hire bikes as well and they do evening nature walks.
You can hire rowing boats etc at winderemere and go on the lake and/or take a trip to Ambleside at the other end of the lake. Brockhole has a good adventure playground. Loads of good pubs around in places like Hawkshead. Learn all wordsworth at Dove cottage in Grasmere if you're that way inclined.There's loads to do and the tourist office staff are v. helpful in Windermere.

Keswick's always good for a day out - they have that car museum there with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

A boat trip on Windermere is always good fun, whatever the weather and you can link that with a trip to the aquarium of the lake and the train trip on the old steam train right by it.

We also visited Ducky's Park Farm at Flookborough, past Grange-over-Sands - lots of farm animals and a soft play area.

Brockhole is good for children. Have a run out to Muncaster Castle, that's a good day out and also the Ravenglass Miniature Railway and Museum. Nip down to Barrow in Furness, about 30 minutes away and take them to the Dock Museum, that's very good. If the weather's good buy them a cheap fishing rod, take them to the lake for a bit of angling. They'll be delighted. Then there is the Aquarium at Lakeside, take the steamer to get there. Up to Grasmere for some famous gingerbread cake. And this;
