The Book of Mormon is another testimony of Jesus Christ. Written by the decendants of Joseph in Egypt who fled to America before the Babylonian exile. It's designed to convince all men, both Jew and Gentile, that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the living God. And to convince all men that God remembers and fulfills His covenants today as He has throughout all of History.

It contains the prophecies of the coming of Christ at the meridian of time and His appearance to His followers in America after His resurrection. It contains the fulness of the Gospel and records the following destruction of the people who ultimately rejected Christ.

And it contains a promise for all people to read its pages for itself and pray to the Father in the name of Christ to learn for oneself whether or not its true. And i invite you to take the challenge. because the Lord does reveal the Book of Mormon to be true.

Actually, the Book of Mormon contradicts the Christian Bible on several points (see first link, below).

For a brief history of the Book of Mormon, thry this:

-----------------------------------
Mormonism began with Joseph Smith Jr. who was born on Dec. 23, 1805, in Vermont. He was the fourth child of Lucy and Joseph Smith. Joseph senior was known as a money digger and sought after buried treasure, particularly that of Captain Kidd. His mother was highly superstitious.
Joseph Smith Jr. stated that he was disturbed by all the different denominations of Christianity and wondered which was true. In 1820, when he was 14, he went into the woods to pray concerning this and allegedly God the Father and Jesus appeared to him and told him not to join any of the denominational churches.
Three years later, on Sept. 21, 1823, when he was 17 years old, an angel called Moroni, who was supposed to be the son of Mormon, the leader of the people called the Nephites who had lived in the Americas, appeared to him and told him that he had been chosen to translate the book of Mormon which was compiled by Moroni's father around the 4th century. The book was written on golden plates hidden near where Joseph was then living in Palmyra, New York. Joseph Smith said that on Sept. 22, 1827 he received the plates and the angel Moroni instructed him to begin the translation process. The translation was finally published in 1830 as the "Book of Mormon" ....

The Book of Mormon is an ancient record of a group of people who lived in Jerusalem around 600 BC. They were told by God that Jerusalem was going to be destroyed and God lead them from there to the American Continent (probably somewhere in Central America). The Book of Mormon gives a record of these people over a thousand year period. It tells, among many other things, of the visit of Jesus Christ to these people after his Resurrection.
The Book of Mormon was found (with God's help) by a man named Joseph Smith, who translated the ancient record into English by the power of God.
The Book of Mormon is great for Christians because it is a whole separate book of scripture that confirms an ancient people's belief in Jesus Christ. It give us further insight into God's Plan of Salvation for us, his Gospel, his Church, the Atonement, the Resurrection, and many other issues that are very important to Christians.
Latter-day Saints (Mormons) use both the Book of Mormon and the Bible. They see the Book of Mormon as another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The book of mormon was yet another "holy book" written by men. It origins are from a guy who said he copied some golden tablets down that only he could translate wearing special glasses. The tablets originated from Jesus return to the world except this time he came to America.

The book of Mormon was written by a man named Joseph Smith who claimed he had revelation from an angel of God.

It does not "back up" Christianity. It is not of God, at all. The bible even warns about this sort of fakery.

Galatians 1:8 "but if we, or even an angel from heaven, should preach unto you another gospel that what has been already preached to you, let them be accursed".
