I have 2 cats who use to share a bowl of food, one needs to lose weight, so we have to give them measured out portions twice a day, how do you do that and make sure that they both get the even amount? I'm afraid one will be a piggy and eat all the food so the other gets none? how do you train a cat to eat out of their bowl only?

I did this, I had a cat, got a kitten, kitten needs different food, my cat doesnt jump on things, so I put the kitty bowls up on my washer/dryer, and everytime the kitty would go to the cat's bowl, I picked him up and put him on the washer, now he always goes there.

By putting the bowls at opposite ends of the kitchen and having the cats with their backs to each other. Call each cat, say the name of the cat as you put the bowl down, so they get used to that one being theirs (we color code ours), and take the bowls up when the cats are done.

Your going to have to feed them in seperate rooms to make sure that the overweight cat isn't consuming more food than he should by stealing it from the other cats dish. Good luck

I don't think you can train them to do that, at least not quickly and easily.

You need to feed them in separate rooms. Allow them about 15 minutes to eat what they want, then remove the food until time for the next meal.
