I think they are all the same. The aspca estimates that only 10% of animals shelters get are neutered/spayed. Tell me your opinion! Just want to know!

sorry let me change what I said. I do believe that respos. breeders are okay. They should make sure that the home is ready for that type of dog. They should also not over breed a dog, and provide it love and care. But I still think it is much better to adopt.

I'm not an over the top PETA supporter - however I don't believe Puppy Mills are worth the breath used to say the words: Puppy Mills. If you have any doubts about how horrible the conditions are in which they breed these animals - do some research on line - it's enough to make your stomach turn and cause you to lose your lunch.
Dog breeders - I'm personally not into breeding animals for money - I don't see the point of it. However if the conditions are suitable - then I guess - as long as the animal isn't being tortured or held captive it's not a horrible thing. I personally wouldn't pursue breeding - simply because you're forcing the animal (in some cases) to do something it's not necessarily wanting to do.
As for people who don't get there dogs fixed - shame on all of them. There are enough videos out there of dogs (and cats alike) being throw in garbage bins after they're euthanized - due to overpopulation.
After reading what I just wrote - I would have to agree with you - there really isn't much difference between any of them is there?
Sad...

Responsible, respectable breeders are fine. They have a passion for a particular breed of dog and try to keep the integrity of the breed thru breeding. That's fine.
And some people do not get their pet spayed/neutered because they want to breed their pet and will take responsibilty for that, and that is also fine.
I don't have the same thinking as breeders and think its pointless to breed when there are so many pets that languish in shelters. But I can respect their choice.
But as far as puppy mills and irresponsible owners, they disgust me.
Puppy mills are places where the love of the almighty dollar replaces the care of the animals. And some people do not neuter/spay their pets out of ignorance, irresponsibility or pride (especially if its a male dog).

Although I do advocate responsible breeders, for the sake of practicality, I really don't think there's any excuse for anyone to be bringing more dogs and cats into the world at present. How about halting breeding for a few years so people who want pets can bring the numbers in shelters down a bit? I know - never going to happen.
Puppy mills - indisputably unacceptable.
People who don't neuter their animals bug me because it appears that 95% of the time the reason people don't is down to ignorance of the potential consequences. Anyone who's seen as many animals suffering from pyometra or reproductive cancers as I have wouldn't hesitate to get their pet neutered.

We have thousands upon thousands dogs and puppies killed in our animal shelters everyday.
Breeders once the dog has had all the pups she can or they are done with her usually end up putting her in the pound to die.
Why spend so much money on a dog when you can rescue one from the pound and spend all the money you saved on vet bills and toys and a good diet for your new dog.
I myself hope the spay and neuter law passes some day soon. Then my job as a rescuer would not be needed any more.
As for puppy mills I cant believe they still exist. But animals are the least of the politicians cares. It doesn't get them votes or make them money.
So we need to be the animals voices.

So, I've got a friend who breeds Bloodhounds. Not a lot. Maybe once a year. All of the potential buyers are checked out before a dog goes to a home. All the dogs are sold with a contract that requires the dog to be returned to her if the person wants to get rid of it for ANY reason.
She also runs a Bloodhound rescue and saves about 20-25 Bloodhounds each year, sometimes more. She doesn't ask for donations. She does this on her own.
Greyhound rescue. Similar type of thing.
Rottweiler and AmStaff rescue similar type of thing.
Now you are denouncing people who breed dogs. Tell me.
What are you DOING to take care of the dog population problem?
What are you DOING to limit the number of backyard breeders who cause much of this problem?

I think that a responsible dog breeder is fine. However, I am not okay with puppy mills, and people who do not get their animals fixed for whatever reason is wrong. There are entirely to many animals in this world. Because of irresponsible people, hundreds of homeless animals get put down every single day.

all different issues :)
I have a purebred pomeranian w/ her papers... BUT... she came from a good breeder who doesn't over breed or abuse their animals.... AND I got her fixed.. because it would be irresponsible of me to breed her JUST to make some extra cash.. as tempting as that would be (and helpful too!), I stand by my morals and convictions...
A puppy mill is a sick sick sick operation. the dogs bred there are abused, live in a cage so small they can't turn around, only have human interaction to be removed from their pens for breeding and birthing....they are almost always sick.. malnourished and treated horribly. it's a very very sad life for these dogs.
I am a HUGE spay/neuter advocate... I volunteer at a kill shelter where 3/4 of the pets never make it to adoption because of overpopulation. People make excuses for being lazy and irresponsible.. but I tell you... you can get it done for cheap.. a lot of cities will even offer free services to those who have low income---you just have to be PATIENT... you're getting a free service... don't expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter and not have to wait in line. :)
I think people who aren't professional breeders should get their pets fixed.. it's the responsible thing to do!

Hi! I believe there is a differenc e between them. Dog breeders care for there animals lovingly and take good care of them. And usually dog breeders only breed dogs that are full blooded, not always but usually. Which meens that they will have good homes because they are so expensive.
Puppy mills are cruel. They breed the same dog so many times that it kills them, And they keep them in cages for there life. They also sell the puppies as soon as they are born to places all over the world. They are very mean to their dogs as well, not feeding them for days at times.
I think that it is a choice to fix your pets. I do believe that there are to many homeless animals out their, but i also believe that some people want their dogs to have babies so the don't fix them.
It is all a matter of opinion!!!

I believe that if you are not going to take responsiblity for an animal you shouldn't have one. If you choose to breed an animal then make sure they are going to good homes and offer to take the animals back if there is a problem with it and find it a better home. Also if you don't want puppies fix your animal. An animal should be bred no more than twice in my personal opinion any more is cruel.

No, they are not all the same.
Responsible breeders take pride in producing healthy, correct, good-tempered dogs. They do it because they love their breed.
Puppy mills do it for profit. The $ is the bottom line and drives their decisions.
People who do not get their dogs fixed are not necessarily irresponsible, but when they allow these dogs to become pregnant "by accident" then the ARE irresponsible.
Anyone breeding without concern for quality, health and temperament is irresponsible too.
