Is there a fertility pill for female dogs. Like there is for human women. i have a dog and id like to be abile to keep her infertile when she comes in heat. i don't want to get her fixed because she is a pure breed rat-terrier and i do breed her but on the occasion i don't id like to keep her from have a mixed litter, not to mention if she breeds with a large breed dog it could potentially be dangerous for her an the pups.

p.s you could say restrain her to keep from getting pregnant but kenneling for a long time is cruel and were there a will theres a way when it comes to dog mating .

No there are no pills or injections to keep a dog from getting pregnant. Make sure she doesnt have more then one litter a year. Its really hard on a dog to carry pups and give birth. Be careful and talk to your veterinarian. Make sure you dont breed her for years and years and years an unspayed female is prone to a lot more illness such as cysts and cancer then a spayed female is.
And as one person said there are "diapers" for females in heat but that isnt fool proof, there was a client that comes to the vet I work at who's female king charles was in heat and wearing a diaper and she walked out of the room for a few minutes and her 40lb springer spaniel got to her 16lb king charles. Needless to say she got pregnant with 6 pups and had to have a c-section and was very ill and almost died. Unforunatly only 1 puppy made it.

There is a contraceptive injection available from vets. It isn't cheap.

I would urge you to get your dog spayed, mostly to protect her health - you're really risking her getting mammary cancer and/or pyometra when she's older. By having her produce puppies you're also taking up much-needed homes for unwanted dogs - there's really no excuse to be bringing more dogs and cats into the world at this time.

talk about cruel. Breeding an animal for money is cruel. Animals are not to make money or to breed, they are meant to be companions for people. If you don't spay your pet that's your choice, but think about the puppies that you sell. I'm sure about 1/4 of them either have pups because they are not neutered or they end up in a shelter, and it's an ongoing cycle. SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!!! It's the humane thing to do!

Because spay/neuter surgery can be expensive and is not always available or appropriate, national and international animal welfare organizations have been working to find non-surgical alternatives. One group in particular is dedicated to this search: Alliance for Contraception in Cat and Dogs, a non-profit whose mission is: "To expedite the successful introduction of methods to non-surgically sterilize dogs and cats and to support the distribution and promotion of these products to humanely control cat and dog populations world wide."

According to ACC&D, two products have been approved for non-surgical contraception: Neutersol in the U.S., and Suprelorin in Australia. Both have limitations, and neither are yet available for cats or female dogs. Additionally, Neutersol is not currently available to be ordered.

Suprelorin®, already available in Australia and New Zealand, is being launched in Europe, with plans for a future US launch as well. This product is from Peptech Animal Health. The implant—which is injected under the skin like a microchip—safely contracepts male dogs for 6 months (a version with 12 month duration is already available in Australia). Like surgical neutering, Suprelorin dramatically reduces testosterone in the blood. But of course it is temporary, and must be repeated to continue contraception. Although licensed for use in male dogs, scientific publications have reported this technology works in female dogs and cats of both genders. In fact, Intervet Animal Health has recently received regulatory approval for a similar product, Gonazon®, for 12 month contraception of female dogs.

You should subscribe to their email list for updates.

you don't have to kennel her for long periods of time... just watch her while she's outside and keep her away from dogs you wouldn't want her to mate with while she's in heat...

if you don't plan to get her fixed... be responsible and keep her away from those sex-crazed neighborhood strays!!! :)

Owning a pet is cruel. Dogs should all be set free as intended. Do dogs stop humans from maating?

You'll have to ask your vet. I think there is a shot they can give her, not sure about pills. all the best;~)
