He is in for long road of dissillusionment.
Hope for a few things.
1. He will get bored
2. He will meet a girl who hates rock bands
3. He will find another interest such as sports.
4. His band will disband because the others will get bored, find girlfriends who hate rockbands, lose interest completely.
If the above doesnt work, Maybe college will.

I used to do it for a living. It is possible to make a decent living even if you don't "make it big" but most people nearly always get involved because they think that its easy money. It isn't.

Living on the road was the most miserable existence that I had and that includes getting shot at in the Army. Every day it was the same crap, pickup and get to the next town, spend a few hours setting up, an hour doing sound checks, and three hours playing. Then sleep a few hours and do it all again. The only guys I knew were the guys we traveled with. It was tough to get a shower most of the time.

The only upside was I was making good money. But you really have to put in the work and be a little ahead of the curve on what is going to be hot next. I was actually pretty close to signing a contract when I got sick of it and went to school. My guitar player stayed out and did finally get signed. You still wouldn't have heard of him, but he made it onto M TV a couple of times.

What usually happens is the guys go out with big dreams and no idea how to make it happen. I do really believe that it is more a matter of work and understanding the business than luck or even talent (although talent is a big help) but it is real easy to get caught up in the scene and not constantly be aware that what you are doing is your job, and that always ends badly.

Not many actually make it big- but how many 15 year olds do you think have a realistic view of adulthood? How many of us wanted to be cops, firefighters, football players, race car drivers, writers for rolling stone? One thing most of those that do "make it" - that is being happy in their career choice, not necessarily rich have in common were SUPPORTIVE parents. Music is a gift- and studies show that kids who play a musical instrument have higher math scores and maybe a one-up on the college application. Get him a good teacher that will teach him music theory- how to read, write, and play. Make sure he balances the hard rock with classical guitar and keeps his grades up!
