I would like to start a business investigating possible cheating spouses in California but I do not have the required 2 year experience to obtain a license. Can I still do this type of work as long as I don't call myself a licensed PI?

You not only need to be licensed, you need to be bonded and have malpractice insurance.

Cheating spouse work won't pay your rent in CA, because it is a no fault divorce state, and a community property state.
The big money for PI's in CA is in documenting Worker's Comp. fraud cases.

Certainly, But I doubt if your evidence will stand up in court. Some body might take offense to being stalked and have you arrested for harassment, If you go on privet property that's trespassing. Then again someone could just beat the s--t out of you or shoot you and claim that they thought you were an intruder. Try explaining that to the cop's. You would more than likely be arrested for stalking and harassment. you could be charged with several thing's ,two of which are felony's. If you tell the authorities what you were doing, That's operating without a license, one more charge. The risk's are not worth the outcome. I would suggest you work for a P.I. for two years then go out on your own.
