There are parts of the bible that do seem to say that the earth is resting on pillars and parts that say that a person can see the entire world from a single vantage point (which is only possible if the world is flat).

There are other parts that say the earth does not move. These parts are what people used to argue against the world orbitting the sun. Here are a couple that are pretty explicit about it.

1 Chronicles 16:30
Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.

Psalm 93:1
The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

1 Samuel
"The pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them. 2:8

Job 9:6
Psalms 75:3

Disc verse:
Psalms 33:14-15
From his seat in heaven, God can see the whole earth and all its inhabitants.
(He sits directly above the earth, which is a flat disc below him.)
Issah 40:22
Daniel 2:35 The stone became "a great mountain" that "filled the whole earth." This could only be possible on a flat, disc-shaped earth.

Where does The New York Times say "sun rise 5:43 a.m."
"sun set 8:22 p.m." on Sunday 7/22/07?
Don't the Weather Report editors know that the sun doesn't rise and set, but that the earth turns on it's axis?
Maybe the report should be taken literally, that is, as the phenomena is observed - it looks like the sun rises and sets.

It doesn't. That was the educated view among the learned at the time. The Bible said the earth was rounded and hung upon nothing. (Isaiah 40:22; Job 26:7)
