This is a REAL answer to one of my questions. I did not make this up folks;
"
Although stupidity obviously staggers you it doesn't me. Look at what you just stated. "scientific theory". It means just that - theory. In other words an assumption. And...um evidence cannot be based on assumptions my friend. That in itself would be hypocritical of the very science you profess to know so much about.
God bless"
Did you get that? This person ACTUALLY thinks that a Scientific Theory is "just an assumption".
Now I' m starting to look for a hidden camera because this HAS to be a joke.
Let's try educating these morons. Follow this link and READ what it says about scientific theory please.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory
Then come back and apologize for how stupid you've been and for not paying closer attention in grade 9 science class.

And to the guy who wrote that answer, Yes I believe you when you say that stupidity doesn't stagger you. You seem utterly mired in it...

David,
Good quote! My father used to say "you can lead an idiot to knowledge, but you can't make him think."
So very true.

he obviously doesn't understand the difference between a hypothesis and a theory.
1. Choose a problem.
* Ask a question about the problem.
2. Research the problem.
* Look in books.
* Get advice.
* Conference with teacher.
* Make observations.
3. Develop a HYPOTHESIS.
* Form a hypothesis from a simple question.
* In a hypothesis, use the words if and then.
4. Design the experiment.
* Write procedures.
* List in order each thing that will be done.
* Control variables.
* List the materials needed.
5. Test the hypothesis.
* Follow procedures.
* Make observations.
* Collect data in a notebook.
6. Organize the data.
* Make a chart, graph, or table of the procedures or results.
* Use pictures or photographs to show the procedures or results.
* Write a summary of what happened in the experiment.
7. State conclusions
* Share what has been learned (ie. THEORY)

Nice choice with Godspeed. They are totally good. Nice track choices too. 1. probably A.C. Newman 2. hmm. Not a huge post rock guy (at least as far as a depth of bands to choose from), Today I will say Trans Am 3. probably Blaise Bailey Finnegan III

Why do Christians not understand the word "theory?" It has never meant "assumption," "guess," or "vague idea."
Think about it folks, in a murder mystery, when the hero says "I have a theory!" He isn't guessing. He has looked at the evidence, built a hypothesis, tested it, and come to a conclusion based on the facts.
Isn't that odd?

Yoda: Here's what your link says, in part:
"In science, a theory is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation.
"It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. "
My question for you: How does "not necessarily stand in opposition" translate to anything other than "not necessarily stand in opposition?"
Maybe you're correct, and the guy who disagreed with you is an idiot. Sometimes like minds recognize one another instantly.

Heheh! Why am I not surprised? I see these same people twisting the meaning of things to fit their own argument for creation. They must've all learned that trick from creationists sites.

You know, sometimes when I see questions and answers of yours, I'm utterly amazed at your intelligence. Other times, I'm astounded by your rudeness.
This time is one of the latter.
Remember that not all religious people are completely ignorant of the difference between "theory" and "scientific theory." The reason I say this, is because instead of "let's try educating this MORON [as in singular]", you stated "morons." Not all of us are morons. We've just reached different conclusions from you. It doesn't make us more or less intelligent than you.
However, and I say this with all love, you COULD stand to be a little bit more tolerant sometimes. I know that religious people aren't always tolerant towards atheists, and I'm sorry, but don't you want to better than them in EVERY way? Or is it okay for you to be just as intolerant as some of them are?

"In principle, scientific theories are always tentative, and subject to corrections or inclusion in a yet wider theory. Commonly, a large number of more specific hypotheses may be logically bound together by just one or two theories."
