What purpose is there to pray for people who may be going through a difficult time that will make them a better person. Since I believe God has our best interest at heart anyway then why pray? Is praying for others for them or to make us better in dealing with them. I have trust that no matter what happens God is there to give me comfort. Is that what we should pray about for others that God send His Comforter to them but not necessarily change the situation if it is for their learning. Please help me with this matter. It has beeen on my mind for a long time. Mmm

2608 From the Sermon on the Mount onwards, Jesus insists on conversion of heart: reconciliation with one's brother before presenting an offering on the altar, love of enemies, and prayer for persecutors, prayer to the Father in secret, not heaping up empty phrases, prayerful forgiveness from the depths of the heart, purity of heart, and seeking the Kingdom before all else. This filial conversion is entirely directed to the Father.

Sure I believe we should pray for everybody, and I believe prayer does work, you should pray even though God has our best interest at heart because you should pray to thank him,to praise him,and pray for others. And when you pray for others it could be to make you feel better but as long as your prayer is sincere and from your heart and what your asking for for that person your doing the right thing,if you see someone when your driving you can ask the Lord to look out for them and open thier eyes to see the things that you see that they might not see.You can never go wrong with prayer we need it 24/7 no matter how you look at it.

Prayer is not only used for asking. Sometimes people pray for answers. I think that the Lord always has our best interests at heart, but that doesn't mean that you should live your life foot and fancy free. The relationship that you have with the Lord should be the most important part of your life. Praying is always good but you shouldn't want to change someone. If you want an alcoholic to stop drinking, you would pray that they discontinue drinking; but you should also pray that the Lord be with them.

I don't feel prayer is all about asking for things. Even though you may ask for God to help guide someone through a tough time doesn't necessarily have to do with you wanting that person to "change" but more with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that God is listening to you, and the knowledge that God cares about said person as well. Greedy prayer isn't prayer at all.

You should pray for everything in God's will.
Remember Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

He doesn't want us to suffer. Hard times do fall on us all, still.
I don't think that if a brother or sister is being punished or tested that God will stop because one of us asks it. He wants us to get through that.
Just pray in Gods will, and just trust him.

God bless,

-B

Speaking the positive truth & cast down the negative lie, when praying, changes people.

Everyone changes every day. Some times they are stuck in a rut for too long, but some changes happen in that rut also. The question is the change for the better or for the worse. We want the change for the better.

All experiences teach us. Some are disciplinary & we have to change to get out of the discipline.

Count it all blessing when we are tried & tested. For they refine us & we mature in faith. But they are no fun at the moment.

Finally a Christian with logic.

If there is an all knowing god wouldn't he already know your problems and that of everyone else and why would he do differently from your praying if he knows all that is to come?

Obviously praying is only for the prayer's comfort! Good job thinking for yourself!

when we are different, the world changes around us. when we make the conscious effort to change, everything and everyone reacts to us differently. think about how you feel when you see someone smiling vs. someone with a mean or mad look on their face...

through prayer, we are seeking God's help to do what can sometimes seem impossible. we pray for others to change, because we see the damage that their current behavior is causing to themselves and the people who love them. we als know that we, as humans, can't change them...only God has that awesome power.

keep in mind that when someone is struggling, the lesson may not be just for them - it might be for us, as well, to grow in our compassion for others.

Prayer has no purpose outside of making those who pray feel better.
