misgeorge, if you think that by asking where our assistance is from our friends and neighbours makes me a "racist muppet" then you need a bit of a lesson in what racism really is all about. My former partner was an African American man who I only parted with when he returned to the States. So stick that somewhere and wriggle it.

I've heard this asked a few times on the news recently and the official gov reply has been that we haven't ASKED for aid.
Basically it's the same in every country - you have to ASK for help from overseas before it's given. That is the procedure, right or wrong it's how it's done.

May be the rest of the world is not sending help because they know we are capable of looking after ourselves. I find it odd that your African partner returned to the USA, what part of the USA is Africa in? Oh silly me it will be in the Asian bit of course.

In India and New orleans, lots and lots of people died, and lost everything. There were all sorts of diseases rampant. We arent that bad yet.
