Meaning, people say Muslims are x,y and z. Christians do bla bla, Atheist behave this way, etc? Do you agree that if we took time to listen to what we are each saying perhaps at that point we would stop generalizing all together and become more tolerant?

Yes BIG problem. Its as bad as not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. Self-righteousness does come into it. Whatever spiritual path we take in life it is the small pebbles that will trip us up and not the mountains and self-righteousness is one of them.

Salam sister and God bless.

Bigotry and intolerance threaten human rights. human beings attempt and isolate bigotry and intolerance to teams that they do no longer accept as true with. Who then is the bigot. Activists sense they're under possibility and usually look extra illiberal than the bigots. the middle direction isn't hassle-free:)))

Of course, my dear, you are right. Just plain ignorance on ALL sides has alot to do with it as well. Politicians, religious leaders and others are quick to take advantage of this. They foment fear and hatred in order to set one group against another. This has been true since the beginning of time. I would like to think that we will see an end to this, but I am afraid that it will never happen. Good luck to you!

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Actually dualistic philosophy is at the heart of the issue. It's a philosophy that underlies much of the thinking you perceive and filters into much of Western lives through education, religion, medicine, sciences etc. The more you can quash it and develop equanimity and compassion... or just altruism, the more of a chance we have for PEACE.

Not a huge part, it is the whole problem! If people would judge others based on their personality instead of their race or religion the world would be a much better place...

Yes, it is. I stop my friends immediately when they start a sentence with the equivalent of 'those people.' I realize it's easier to think in terms of monolithic groups rather than collections of individuals, but you miss out on alot and simply reinforce your own prejudices when you do this.

If people would stop self stereotyping themselves and referring to their children as Christian or Muslim or Jewish or whatever...to say I am a Muslim is a generalisation, it says nothing about you but conveys only a generalised stereotype so I think it's inextricably tied up in the religion package.

Without generalising we simply cannot talk about the bigger picture just individual incidences or persons so we must continue to use generalisations.

i agree, because many people don't even give others a chance to defend themselves or to even ask if what their saying is the truth. everyone should become more tolerant but i don't think it will ever happen

Generalizations are normally used to persecute another group.

I do not like generalizations at all.

Peace be with you!
