Is the concept of Satan over the top? It seems as though Satan has nothing better to do than to try to get people to go to hell?

Why would he care? For more souls? If God is willing to send someone to hell forever no matter how good of a person they are simply because they are not a Christian, then the devil should have nothing to worry about when it comes to getting plenty of souls.

And what's he going to do? Torture them forever? Wouldn't that get boring? Does this mean that Satan has no life? Doesn't he do anything else?

And why would Satan have power in hell? Isn't that kind of like being rewarded? Doesn't Satan get tortured too? And what about the demons? Do the demons get tortured too? Do they take turns where on all odd numbered days a certain group of demons and Satan get tortured and then on even days Satan and the other demons do the torturing?

Do this make sense to ANYONE who is not a Christian or a Muslim?

Satan has fallen from God. There is no salvation for him, and he knows it.

He is destined for an eternity away from the light of God.

Doesn't misery love company?

Satan will trick many.... but you have it a bit twisted.

He is trying to hurt God, for God loves us... like we love our pets.

If you cant get to the owner, get to what they love.

Hell is a choice. Not necessarily a punisment from God. It is and it isnt.

If you choose to reject salvation, it is hell automatic.

God is not willing to lose even one.. but He will not take away His gift of free will to achieve that purpose.

God can do anything. If his pet loves Him, is good natured, He will save it.

If His pet pisses all over his carpet, chews up the furnature, and runs away any chance it gets...it is its nature. He will let it go.

God bless you.

I was raised as a christian. But since I moved out for the past 2 years my religion has all changed. I don't consider myself to be anything. None of it makes sense to me anymore. Over time the stories keep changing. In the beginning Satan was just a angel who was rejected from heaven, so he was put in charge of hell. Then the whole idea of hell was a fire river that damned souls were cast into. Plus you can earn your way to heaven, because God is suppose to be always forgiving or something. During the dark ages they changed everything about the devil and hell. So now it seems to be really bad. Anyway, I watched this program on History channel about hell I don't remember what it is called though. But if you watch it, it should answer your questions.

My roommate is Jewish, and the Christian characterization of Satan - which Mohamed later borrowed when he created his religion - is puzzling to him.

The original Satan was just another of God's faithful angels. His job was to test men and to prosecute them if they were tried. He's God's D.A.

The authors of the New Testament crafted the reworked devil-Satan from folklore, not from Hebrew scripture.

The lack of animosity between God and Satan was something of an embarrassment for Christians, so they came up with the story that when Isaiah called the King of Babylon "Lucifer" (the only time the name appears in the Bible) , that he really meant Satan. And they made the Serpent in the garden Satan too, without any scriptural basis.

Also, you'd think if Satan really were evil and against god, he wouldn't do god's will and torture those who are essentially on his side.

I'd think Satan would be building an army with the billions of people who'd have to wind up down there, an army to take over heaven.

If it's real (it isn't) I'd expect Satan to toss the incoming sinfuls a beer before condemning them to torment.

Yes!

(I am a Buddhist who believes in God, or a "higher power")

It is called Dogma. Dogmatic religions are based on long lists of authoritarian rules, they read like a game of chutes and ladders.

Karmic religions (like Buddhism, Hinduism and Wicca) are based on the idea that everything happens without our assistance and we have only to do good and attain enlightenment. (or that we are an actual part of God, not a subject unto a mean old man in the clouds).

I personally believe that the focus on "evil" is what creates it... just look at how well it fares for Muslims... and Christians are not without their own version of Al Qeada either... look up "Westboro Baptist Church".

I believe that I am just as "saved" as any Christian but for different reasons.

LaVeyan Satanists see Satan as a personification, not of fear, but of all that comes naturally to human beings, for example, the natural reaction to someone doing you wrong, is that you get angry. Satanists allow themselves to get angry, and take out their anger by performing a ritual which is symbolic of, and is purely a metaphor for revenge.

(I just want to make it clear that Satanists do not go around beating people up for skipping them in the line at the shopping mall!)

Christians, however, have decided to repress peoples natural urges, like the one I mentioned above, another one is sexual gratification, which is seen as some sort of disease!

(Agh! they are so silly.)

I think the way Christians see these core elements of human nature is horrible, and to me, its th only reason why the church has had it's flock traipsing in and out every Sunday - to confess their so called "sins", and be made feel guilty all over again. They are brainwashed in to feeling guilty, and they are brainwashed in to fearing Satan, no more than a "boogey-man" for grown ups, if the leaders of the Christian church could even be described as adults.

Thank you for the opportunity to have a satisfying little rant.

A star to you.

Well as an atheist I don't believe in God OR Satan...
But yeah, he seems to be thought of as a very busy super duper evil guy...
Torture could be easy though if you know what gets people..
Stick a clean freak in a messy sticky roach infested room or
put someone with arachnophobia in a small space with big spiders ... etc...

Actually back when I was a SDA I believed that hell isn't a place but an event that was suppose to happen after Jesus was suppose to come back, and the devil was going to be suffering too.

But many theists do believe that whole hell concept, makes me laugh. Muwhahahaaa!

Nope, makes no sense. One has to wonder why an omnipotent creator being is threatened or thwarted in any way by a minor dark being.

It's just an excuse to blame problems on without making the deity in question actually, you know, responsible for anything.

It makes no sense to me...

I just can't figure out where Christians have come up with Satan 2.0, the version with all the upgrades that makes him more powerful than their god...

Satan and boredom? do you think Satan plays a PS2? and if you'd learn to read, it says in the Bible, Satan dislikes God and wants to take away his followers, and in the end Satan DOES GET PUNISHED
