In 1879, the first successful light bulb was tested. Until the invention of the compact fluroscent light (CFL) bulb, the incandescent bulb was the one used. Is Edison's invention still being used for the CFL?

Edison invented far more than the light bulb. He invented generators, meters, plugs, sockets, and lots of stuff that is needed for electric light. And yes, many of his inventions are still in use. And he was not the only electric light inventor. He is just the most famous.

As prices go down, white LEDs are poised to take over light bulbs. They last alot longer, brighter, more durable, and consume miniscule energy compared to Edison's light bulbs. Right now the price is too high, but that will gradually fade as more people use them.

Do you see this as a necessarily bad thing? An invention from 1879 is getting improved upon. Progress is supposed to be good, I thought.
