I just shot a wedding on July 4th. The bridesmaids were in royal blue, the tables were covered with r,w &b, some flags and some stripes. Centerpieces were all rw&b flowers, the bouquets were the same. The groom was a firefighter, so it was complete with banner festooned fire truck. Fireworks in the evening and sparklers, of course. BBQ for reception food.
Either take it all the way, or be very subtle, there is no middle ground here!

As long as you don't go overboard with the 4th of July theme, i.e., American flags everywhere, firecrackers, stars & stripes banners, etc. Less is always more! Red, white, and blue decorations would be lovely if used in the right way. Don't do the bright primary versions of the colors. Instead, use softer toned down versions. Besides, themes are for parties. Not weddings! Good luck!

Frist, the shade of the colors isn't a big deal...go with dark blue or deep red or go with true reds and blues if you wish. They key to keep it tasteful and not cheesy is to use the colors more than symbols (e.g. flags, stars, patriotic bows) for your decor. It is my opinion that when it comes to decorating any wedding, less is more and elegance is the primary factor to keep in mind. This doesn't have to be fancy, but keeping things simple, you can get away with doing any theme. And, anyone attending your wedding on July 5 will not find it odd that you would use this type of theme.

I think it would be lovely. I would have the bridesmaids in a navy or cranberry colored dresses. Try adding a cream colored accent. I wouldn't do royal blue, bright red and white unless you want to look cheap. If you have an evening wedding the sparklers would look fantastic in pictures just make sure they don't spit on the dress! Have fun with it.

People do Holiday theme weddings all the time (Christmas, New Years, ect). I don't see anything tacky about doing the 4th of July as long as you don't fill your space with cheap backyard BBQ type decorations. My colors were royal blue & white, and the contrast was very striking. Add some red accents, and you've got it. Instead of throwing things (rice, birdseed) your guests can hold sparklers as you exit. Have fun with it.

Yes, I've been to one. And it was tacky. I'm sure you can pull it off in a much nicer way. She was in white (BTW,her 3rd marriage), half her BM's wore red ugly lace dresses, the other half wore the same ugly design in a royal blue. Their flower girls wore crowns that were made out of the red, white & blue stars you get at craft stores. It was their version of all american...horrible.

I went to one last year, the bridemaid dresses were red, the flowers were all three colors, and the favors were tubes of m&m's with all 3 colors. Everyone understood the theme without it being overdone.

I think if you changed the red white and blue a little to have like burgandy, light blue, and cream you would still have the independence day colors but without the cheeseball factor.

Everything in moderation. I think it would be very nice. You could carry red and white flowers. The bridesmaids could wear blue or red and carry white flowers. Do patriotic favors. Make it subtle.

I would go with a darker blue and a darker red against the white. It would still be patriotic, but not as bright and overpowering.
