A flower on your handbag is fine if it's always there and its one of those fake fabric flowers.

If it looks like a real flower you should go ahead and take it off since flowers are used to set apart the family members and the bridal party. You should definately not add flowers to your clothing or your hair. A flower printed fabric is acceptable but having a corsage is not.

You are just a regular guest

The only time I've had anything to do with flowers at a wedding is when I'm part of the wedding party.

Only if it was given to you by the bride and groom. They are often given to the ushers, the moms, dads and grandparents... and of course the wedding party.

But if it's an everyday flower on a bag that doesn't look like a coursage or anything, that might be ok.

I don't think it matters what is on your handbag, but I don't think you normally wear a corsage if you are not in the wedding.

Only as a buttonhole and only if I'm related to the bride or groom.

That's fine but you don't need to. It is a matter of style. If you need to, please use appropriate colors.
