At one time, you couldn't know the sex of a baby until it was born . These days, a doctor can find out the sex of an unborn baby . Many parents would rather not know if it's a boy or a girl until it's born . I say you shouldn't know if it's a boy or a girl until the baby's born . I've known people who say they should know so they can shop for the baby . NOW -- How can you shop for an unborn baby if you'd rather not know if it's a boy or a girl until the it's born ? Do you really have to know if it's a boy or a girl before you can do any shopping ? How did people shop for an unborn baby in the days when you couldn't know if it was a boy or a girl until it was born ?

Its ok to shop if you don't know the sex of the baby you just buy things in neutral colors like greens, yellows and beiges and neutral themes like Teddy bears. Alot of things are now gender specific because most people do find out so it may be more difficult than in the past though.

Easy! You buy neutral items. I wanted to wait to find out if I was having a boy or a girl. You need certain basics no matter what, so that part is easy. And I figured if I had neutral basics, I'd be set already if I have more kids in the future. The only hard part is the clothes. I had basics, like plain onesies or the whole green and yellow thing, but I did lots more shopping after I had my baby girl. That part is lots of fun! After she was born I picked up little pink clothes, and girly print gowns and sleepers.

In days when people couldnt or didnt find out what the gender of the baby was they didnt need as many necessary items as we do today. They had more social support to know they can depend on than today. Mothers more than not stayed at home and hence thought they could work it out and people also depended a lot on hand me downs in matters of advice as well as bassinets or strollers.
Today we have so many things to do, so many places to go that whether or not we want to find out what gender the baby is, we want to get the baby's room ready. The furniture is always basic color, stroller, carseat, playpen etc etc that doesnt need any color determination.
In fact if you buy clothes in all colors and patters (onesies and overalls) then besides that you can go ahead and buy everything if you so wanted. Be prepared so that when the baby comes, all you have to worry about and enjoy is the baby. Good luck.

The only time you need to know the sex of the baby is if you are going to decorate the nursery accordingly. Other than that, there are many unisex themes (pooh, original Disney, Noah's arch, teddy bears, etc) and clothing (yellow, white, mint, etc). Most of the toiletries are unisex also (baby bath, lotions, diapers, creams, wipes, washcloths, etc). You can get everything a baby needs without knowing the sex of the child if you are not particular on pink and girly things or blue and boys things.

you buy netural colors, yellow, greens for either boy or girl. If you are buying gifts, let the cashier know and get a gift receipt to go along with the gift and put in when you wrap it. This way the new parents can exchange it.

You went out and bought necessities which you could use for either a boy or girl , and chose a couple of outfit that would be used for either, and after they were born, you bought the outfits for their gender, Colors like mint green , yellow, were consider suitable for either .

You could just buy clothes that are neutral colors (black n white, red, grey, tan, khaki..)..same with decorating the baby's room, just pick a theme that could be cute for a boy or girl (example: baby Winnie the pooh, Blue's clues, baby Looney tunes...)

Buy colors that go for a boy or girl. Green, yellow. Most things are plain colors and you can use them for either sex.

You can shop before knowing, you just can't buy gender specific items. Steer clear of blue and pink...go for mint green or yellow. Instead of trucks or dolls, buy educational games/toys. It is possible.
