In alaska there was a lake that used to catch fire when hit by lightning. Turned out it was crude oil seeping in and floating to the surface. This was a clue to the energy boys to check up there for oil deposits. They found a lot and built the pipe line.

What could an all powerful "loving" god possibly hope to
gain from burning people in a lake of fire? What kind
of "father" would do that to his children?

The fires that cause Hell to burn are only a place of terror for the wicked. The righteous will live securely in that fire because the flames are caused by the presence of God.
God is the Fire. "For our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12: 29)

What part of God being all-powerful don't you understand? Hell is not Earth and is not subject to the laws of science. It doesn't need a fuel.

Welllll, the Bible says it's brimstone, or sulphur. But that could hardly last 'forever and ever', unless the whole thing is dropped into a black hole.
Hmmm... That actually makes sense...

Gluttonous fat from all the people tossed into there. I guess when the fat runs out, it will be a "cold day in hell" for sure.
