Pharoah was not so bad. He wasn't big on labor relations but hey, who wants a union shop? I think the story just needed a bad guy. Not every bad guy is the embodiment of evil incarnate. Bit melodramatic don't you think?
Everyone says Satan is the devil but it really looks like Satan was a favored angel who was in the company of God well after Genisis. Satan certainly precipitated the affliction of Job but that doesn't mean he's evil. God did all the afflicting. That seamed rather mean just to win a bet. If I started killing off people you knew just to test your faith I think I'd be considered pretty evil.
