I plan to cross the US border from Canada. I don't have a drivers license, so I sent an application away for a LCBO BYID card. It has my picture, name, date of birth, and date issued on it.

Will this, plus my Birth Certificate be acceptable ID? Or will the folks at the border tell me to turn around and go home.

For the BYID card, you need to send away your own passport photo, have your gurator sign it, a photocopy of your birth certificate, and all that jazz.

I figured with all these added requirements, it would be sufficient photo ID. Not everyone has the new Health Cards with your photo on them, and even more people don't drive. (Such as myself).

Until I send away for my passport (I plan to do it in August), i'm hoping I can gain entry into the US as a Canadian Citizen of 20 years. (100% Canadian!).

If driving you should get by.

To cross the border you are trying to meet 2 criteria. Proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A passport is designed to prove both. A birth certificate proves citizenship. A drivers license or government issued photo id proves identity. LCBO is government, so should be good enough. The only thing is the card does says it's only purpose is to prove your age to LCB.

You can request a birth certificate from the hospital without any photo ID. You may need to know what your SS number is, but I don't believe you actually need the card. As far as photo ID, if you went to college you may be able to get them to issue you an ID even if you aren't currently a student. Hope it works out for you. PS- What a prick!!

Usually the main document is the birth certificate, government ID with picture should work fine but you might give them a call. The more ID you have, the better they feel about you.

As I understand it, you need a health card or driver's license. Why not call US customs before you go? Make sure you tell them you have a job in Canada, otherwise they'll think that for some stupid reason you want to move to their backwards country to find work!! Imagine that!
