Why was Esau's own mother encouraging Jacob to decieve and steal from her other son?
Why was Jacob and Rebekha tricking a family member like that?
It seems heartless.

It was not the first time (look at Ishmael and Isaac) nor would it be the last when a parent showed favortism amoung children. (Look at Jacob's wn children and their brother Joeseph). It still goes on today.

In the case of Esau and Jacob, Esau was altheltic, a hunter, and a sportsmen, This appealed to his father. Jacob was quiet, studious, and responsible, which appealed to his mother.

So when the time came for Isaac to appoint his heir, Rebekkah felt that Jacob would be a better choice. Partly because she loved Jacob more, but also because Esau had no interest in running the family and had several years early sold that position to Jacob. But the father, Isaac, refused to acknowledge that sale.

So Rebekah conspired to get what she thought was Jacob's rightful place for him. So she talked him into tricking Isaac.

There was a punishment for the deed. Jacob was forced to flee into hiding for 21 years. During that time Rebekah dies, and they never saw each other again. It cost them many years that they could have spend together as mother and son.

Even after Jacob returned, there would continue to be trouble between his descendants and those of Esau for generations to come.

Jacob was Rebekha's favorite.
He spent time with her in the house while Esau was a hunter and loved the outdoors.

We can understand why the scriptures say God hated Esau, but why did He love Jacob?

First we must remember they were human- so they were by no means perfect-
Jacob was her favorite- as mentioned by someone else it was not right-- but that is the way it was-Just as Esau was his father's favorite.
Why? from a parents perspective- you always want the best for your child..
Why weren't they punished- What about Jacob- falling in love w/ Rachael & was deceived.. Thought he was marrying his love & got her Sister Leah... He was devastated..
He eventually married Rachael also-- but after many extra years of labor to earn her.....
Also- When Jacob left... did the mother ever see her beloved son again..?? I don't know about anyone else- but as a mother I would consider "that" punishment..
We must keep in mind that the Bible shows many examples of human failure & how they can be turned around by Gods Love.

Esau was born just moments before Jacob making him the heir to the birthright (or Preisthood) that was passed down from father to first-born son. However, Jacob was the more righteous of the two and they all knew it. Esau did not value or even respect what was offered him. He chose a wife outside the "covenant" (non-jewish) meaning that the lineage would end with him. It could not be passed to his first born son. He freely sold his birthright to Jacob. It wasn't a matter of trickery. You cannot fool God.

All I can say is Jacob was her favorite child and the mother wanted Jacob to have the blessing. Read all of Genesis 27.

Rebekah loved Jacob more than Esau. He was her favorite. Now, this wasn't right, but that's the way it was. Rebekah and Isaac both had their favorites. And, the fact is, God had a plan for Jacob. Now, God doesn't condone deception and Jacob paid for it later in his own family. His 12 sons were famous for it. They even sold one of their own brothers into slavery and then told Jacob he died. But, even in that, God had a bigger plan.

have you ever incredibly study the tale? in case you had, it explains the full element... Jacob exchange into destined to be the chief of the Hebrews. He had the management skills. He understood human beings. Esau exchange right into a brute who might in simple terms have waged war upon the neighboring peoples without ever attempting to talk to them. He deceived his father and he TRADED Esau for the birthright, whether all of it got here approximately because of the fact it exchange into meant TO BE. look on the tale of Jesus and his death...why did no longer he attempt to run? Why did no longer he attempt to talk his way out of being carried out? because of the fact it exchange into meant to be....think of roughly it. And, btw...Jacob does not advise deceiver...it skill "he who hung on"...as he exchange into protecting directly to Esau's heel while he exchange into born. additionally, Esau skill "bushy".

Rebecca understood the mission of her family. That is that the spirituality of Abraham and Isaac had to be passed along to future generations with all the rights and privileges of the 'first-born'. Esau, the first-born, had proven time and again that he was rooted in the physical world, paying lip service to what his father and grandfather were trying to teach him and all of humanity. And, in truth, it was Esau who originally usurped the first-born status at the time of birth.

In any case, Rebecca realized that it was only thru Jacob that the hopes of bringing God into the world existed and therefore instigated this deception.

No one tricked Esau. He gave up his birth right for a bowl of stew. He had no respect for it. As it was God's promise he was so flippant about he didn't get it.
They were accomplishing God's will why would he punish them. And why shouldn't he punish those you show him disrespect?
God Bless!

It makes for a good story, that's why.

Oh, but Jacob does get his just deserts after he flees for his life and goes off by his relative Laban. Laban is just as much of a trickster as Jacob is and Jacob ends up getting a taste of his own medicine.
