Are you just going to spend the day in the city or stay over? Park in PA or NJ and take the train or bus into the city. Depending on your budget and comfort level there are many options from amtrak to the commuter lines to the cheap buses. There are stops from Philly all the way through NJ depending on how far you wanted drive. There are options that go at all hours so you could fit a whole day in if you leave very early and get back very late. The transportation system in NYC is great so you can get around to wherever you want. You obviously can't fit everything into one day so pick something you each want to see and then work in as much else around that as you can. If she wanted to see fashion district or the shops of 5th ave/midtown are probably more what you are looking for you could start there, then head down to the village and one of the downtown parks or head up town and see a museum and central park, then end up seeing Times Square at night before heading back. The options are endless, just avoid eating in a chain restaurant, tourist traps, or a shop that you could do anywhere to get the real New York City atmosphere and culture. Enjoy.

There is ordinarily low cost parking as you park towards the river (Hudson and East). Prices will prefer up as you park towards the visitor/Broadway/fifth Avenue locations. I haven't any issues parking close the river locations, nevertheless you must observe the field (are there many travelers or pedestrians). The much less pedestrians, the extra vigilant you must be while going again or take a taxi again to the storage. Also, avenue parking is an additional choice. However, learn the meters and indicators.

Q: Where's the best place to park if you want to enjoy the sights of NYC unencumbered?
A: In New Jersey :)
Seriously. Drive to Newark Penn Station, park your car, and purchase a seven-day unlimited ride MetroCard ($24). Then take the PATH train to the World Trade Center. From there, you can take the MTA subways to any part of Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens, and if you want to see Staten Island, you can take the Ferry -- for free.
Why drive and have to deal with the hassle of finding a parking space when you can ride the subway and/or buses (or walk) instead?

I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be there, you would enjoy the shops, Statue of Liberty, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square, Broadway Theater, and Ellis Island if you are interested. There are so many awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!

I think there is one one on Second Avenue and East 36 Street, on the "Right," side of the street.
