I just recently bought a mac book after being an avid pc user my whole life and as much as i love the mac book i cant for the life of me download ANYTHING. Everytime that i try to download an application, movie, clip, or anything for that matter it has a .exe file extension and when i try to open it after it downloads, Quick Time pops us with an error message saying " ERROR OPENING MOVIE...This movie cannot be opened". Even if it isnt a movie at all, everytime i download something, Quick Time opens it. I'm getting vey frustrated....what can i do? Thanks to everyone who provides an answer.

The first thing to do is run the Disk Utility to test for corruption. To do this, put the install DVD in the drive, restart and hold the "C" key. Don't reinstall anything. When it gets fully booted to the install screen, click on "Installer" or "Utility" in the top menu bar and choose to open Disk Utility. Now choose the hard drive and then choose to repair disk. Does it find any problem? If yes, repair again to be sure it will finally say "Appears to be OK". Then restart and try the download again. If it never found any problems, you should create a new admin user, logout and login as the new user. Try the download. If it works fine, there's something corrupt in the original user's Library folder. If it doesn't work, do an archive install saving users and network settings.
