I can tell you professionally after 29+ years as a Gunshop Owner/ Hunter, I don't know nor have I ever heard of any cartdrige that can match the 30-30 Winchester caliber bullet, for the most Deer killed. Though the lever action Winchester 94's and the Marlin 300's are the more popular, your Savage is a pretty good gun in it's own right, and is next in line for it's popularity. As an Appraiser, I can also tell you that the "Blue Book of Gun Values"
(The Dealer's "Bible" for determining market value for guns, based on condition and value) rates your Savage Model 340 Bolt Action at $150-175 based on 90% overall condition. I took one in trade 15 years ago, decided to keep it myself, scoped it and I've still got it. Great shooting rifle/caliber in my opinion. Not fancy mind you but very functional....effective

I bought my 2'nd 340 from a pawn shop about 3 years ago. Gave 350 for it,the first one I gave to my son after I bought this one. It is the best shooting 30-30 I have ever shot. Had to replace the clip but a quarter size bulls eye at 150 yds. 3 out of 4 times is not bad.
